Who do you nominate as the most devastating puncher active in the past 25 years, gents? Itd make a good Ring Mag article.

McClellan, Jackson, Norris, Pacquiao, Corrales, Freitas, Foreman (comeback), Tyson, Lewis, Hamed...

Going back to 1986...

I still want to say Hearns.

Would have to say Jackson. The effect on some of his opponents was devastating.

Julian Jackson was probably the most devastating one shot KO monster puncher I recall in the last 25 years.

The answer is Jackson. I've been watching a whole ass load of fights recently, just to refresh and have some fun. Recently went through a month long festival of watching nothing but great action fights, and I've been doing the same for the big hitters for the past few weeks, just watching any and all weight classes, gaging their power, comparing and contrasting, etc.

Pound for pound nobody I've ever seen on film (much less the past 25 years) has ever had the same effect with their punches on their opponents. He had the pendulum effect going when he swung those meat cleavers, and would put it right through the opponent's face. Similarly awe-inspiring with both the right and left hand. He's the man.

If you asked Herol Graham he would disagree. On account of still not being able to remember a thing about their bout :OhYes:

Guys, giving this some thought I think we have three stand-outs...

McClellan
Hearns

Julio Cesar Chavez Snr deserves a mention in this thread through his sickeningly strong body punching also Tito Trinidad as well.

Youre on a roll today, Langers. What are they putting in your coffee to nominate Chavez, or even Trinidad, as arguably the greatest puncher of the past quarter-century!?

Mike Tyson without a doubt, 25 years ago he was in his prime and that dude was seriously cracking skulls!
2. McClellan(RIP)
3. Tie Roy Jones Jr. (Please dont let the crap you see him doing now bring his punch devastaion value down, we saw him do stuff that we havent seen before) and Naseem Hamed would be good candidates.

I don't know mate but it seems to be working wonders though. Sometimes when I have watched JCC Snr's fight on Youtube there are times you have to wince a little at the utter savagery of his body work.

What about George Foreman?

He is the greatest puncher of all-time, period, & he has been active inside the last 25 years, just ask Michael Moorer. :bag: :yay:

For what it's worth, I think Matthew Hilton had a better hook i.e. more devastating to the body than Chavez.

Hearns or Jackson for me.

No one mentions it, but if Wlad would only commit a little more, he'd deserve a shout I think. I don't know many HW's who could take a bomb from him. Too bad he never throws any.

Hilton's title fight against Drayton is a good one to start. Drayton had a couple of broken ribs after that fight.

Wow that is a terrible list. Roy Jones? Really? And McClellan is not dead last I checked.

Even RJJ can't believe his name is associated with punch devastation.

A thread within a thread maybe it would help us come to the conclusion. I think the leading candidates in this question are Jackson, Hearns, Hamed, McClellan or whoever you think the top puncher is and list his body of work. Particularly his most devastating knockouts.

I'll start with just the best of each guy, that I can think of anyway

Hearns: I don't think most would argue that the Roberto Duran KO was his most devastating, considering Duran's normally sturdy chin and the fact that he still went on to accomplish great victories, this is definitely Tommy's best I'd say.

Jackson: Herol Graham...If you saw it, You know it what I'm talking about.

McClellan: Probably the 1st round KO of Julian Jackson, he knocked him out in 5 the first time around and took everything Jackson hit him with in the process, but that's a chin issue. He could take Jackson's shots, Jackson couldn't take his.

Hamed: Admittedly I'm not as familiar with Hamed's body of work as some of you will be, the most noteworthy KO I saw of him was the Kevin Kelley KO where he kept getting up and putting Kelly down and vice versa. I wouldn't doubt he had a few more devastating one shot KO's along the way.
