Bunce, boxrec, his show

he always seems to mention eastside boxing and other forums, but not Boxrec. I think Boxrec is the best boxing forum so have i missed something, has he had a falling out with someone on here and thrown his toys out of the pram? also, his show has been shite on allegedly- not a patch on the one on setanta. surely he should cut the phone shit out and at least get them on skype video calls. now i respect what he is trying to do, he likes to talk boxing and wants to get people listening - but he needs to make his show more professional, why not get andy kerr in?

Maybe he has a better rapport with certain members on ESB? I dunno.

He does, on his Radio show appear to get more feedback, comments and emails from the ESB members, though again I could be wrong. It's just a personal observation.

Other than that, I have no idea. Maybe the interaction with ESB is a bit more respectable? I've read people's comments get a little close to the mark when reacting to his comments, rightly or wrongly.

its a much busier forum. So I am sure he gets a timely interaction from there which he needs for the show.

He used to post the details of the guest on his show here, but got little response and doesnt anymore, maybe he got warned about advertising his show on here by a mod. Not sure.

I remember Bunce mentioning boxrec in the last few months - he even placed emphasis on it. I think it might have been on a Primetime show. I've heard him mention it quite a few of times on his radio show too. Not sure about on BN.

He use to mention boxrec more often then now ! As for the show, I like it and look forward to it, although I must admit Andy Kerr on there with him would be better IMO. Maybe there going to see how it goes and how there budget looks after it goes ppv !

Its clearly deliberate, he went out of his way to read off a batch and left off boxrec. He's mentioned boxrec before, but he made a few hissy-fit posts more recently and its been since then that he's not said it. It's one of those where I think he's trying to make a point, but not sure what the point is. A lot like much of the show really.

Negus? World championship material?

The show isn't a patch on what it was in the setanta days.

When Negus almost said he could have been a world champion I spat out my all bran!! Yeah like Derry Matthews, Choi, etc were world champions!

It's good to see Bunce back but it's not as good as the Setanta show. Andy Kerr would give him someone to bounce of and keep him in check when he's losing it a bit. Keep the guests sensible as well, the whole Negus mob were cringeworthy.......

No, he didn't get warned by a mod, as far as I know. He's allowed to post two links a week to his own stuff like everyone else.

Yes, ESB is much busier and he gets more reaction from them.

He always used to mention BoxRec, usually straight after ESB.

However, as related on another thread, he's not very happy with some aspects of BoxRec (well, me mainly) and in his last show he didn't mention this site - which is entirely his prerogative.

didnt negus say to one of his lads "“What’s the point hitting them with loads of shots wasting your energy when you can hit them with one”? Didn’t he also say that the big goon behind him was going to spar with degale!?! Wtf is degale doing sparring doormen?!

I think the guys up his own arse quite frankly and who gives a fornicate if he mentions Boxrec or not !!

Who is he to say that he isn't happy with certain aspects of the Boxrec site. I reckon it's all down to whoever brown noses and it was interesting to see the atmosphere between him and Steve Collins early on in the Pacquaio - Marquez fight, because you could clearly see that Collins wasn't impressed with Bunce. He seems to walk around as if he knows everyone and everything and i find his east end dude persona a little tiresome. Who cares if he mentions Boxrec or individuals of sites, he knows no more about boxing than a lot of people on here and some of his statements are frankly stupid. Boxrec doesn't need him.

You are right, he doesn’t know more about boxing than the next man. He seems to try to justify his existence in his role by saying that he “goes back a long way” with most of his guests..he makes a point of doing it. He riled me when he tried to say that Ismail Syllack wasn’t a prospect after his fight on the Toney bill, that he wasn’t up to much. Fck off bunce, did you see Syllack destroy the ex Cuban amateur golden boy Yorgdanis Despaigne? he lost a LOT of respect from me for that, wasn’t just a comment he made, he went right for the jugular. IMO Syllack is gonna rub his nose in it and become a good world champion. Bunce is just your typical mockney bullshitter, if whoever runs box- nation thinks that getting him on the channel is gonna attract real boxing fans, they are wrong.

He's given loads of mentions to this site in the past, maybe not mentioning it the other night was a bit petty, or maybe he just plain stumbled over it, he always misses one or two out.

The attitude that 'we' don't need him is nonsense - who are 'we' meant to be, some kind of religious cult? It's a boxing forum people, lets not take ourselves too seriously eh? Many of us post on various boxing forums, it's not them an us stuff is it? Christ if you gave some people a carrot and others a pear and told all the carrot clutchers to 'go get them idiot pear munchers' there are people who would run off into the sunset brandish their carrot like a sword!

He knows plenty about boxing, but yes he has the habit of alluding to this often. Annoying? Possibly. A sign of ignorance? Hardly

I thinks its rather naff that the suppossed hold he has over sites and people is whether he mentions them on his tv show, a show that is watched by a very small audience. I remember on the Marquez bill he mentioned TommyGunn ans said that he disagreed with him on the judging of that fight, but said that TommyGunn "Knows his boxing........" as if the almighty had deemed it worthy to praise one of his followers. How does he know if TommyGunn "knows his boxing" ?? Also he scored the Pacqauio - Marquez fight by eight rounds to Marquez, when it was anything between two to three rounds max. All this from the maestro himself Mr Bunce

Great post.

Bunce used to use the line "I've spoken to people who know more than me about it, and....". Then one night on setanta he corrected himself, "actually, no they don't know more than me, but they know a lot". It was then I start noticing an ego running out of control and that some things I'd previously taken as read, weren't actually the case.

I was there when he presented an Evening with Tyson, and he showed bigger ego than Tyson (or any of the other 7 former fighters) throughout.

Once on his radio show he reviewed a book, and because the author was there, was hugely enthusiastic about it. On here the book wasn't getting great reviews, I mentioned Bunces review and he came on to say that he'd only said it was a "nice little read". I challenged him on it, but as we know, Bunce only responds when it suits him. Even then, its usually only to call anyone who disagrees with him a keyboard warrior. Its one thing fighters saying that, but no one would have any reason not to say it to Bunces face, its incredibly pathetic.

There are countless examples of 'Tell like it is' Buncey not quite telling it like it is. I really liked Buncey, then I grew wary, then tired, now I just find it boring. The oaf-ish behaviour on his show is now dated. I genuinely prefer Ringside, which is odd as on paper, Buncey should win every time given the variety of guests and lesser known fighters he has. Its not even the content, its the silly humour. He seems desperate to make the show cheap and tacky. Far from being a draw to BN (as I know he is for many people), the constant gurning makes him quite the opposite for me. He's not evil and he does clearly love and tries to sell the sport, he's just not my cup of tea. BN have some great guys working there, and Keys is a bit of a surprise hit for me, but Buncey is too much.

Yeh yeh yeh Keyboard warrior, bla bla, you were there, bla bla bla, internet writers are pooh, adios. Saved you a job there :TU:

The whole point is that this thread was created because Bunce had not mentioned the site on his show !! All i'm saying is "big deal" what doe it matter if he does mention it or not. I think it all boils down to people wanting their names mentioned on television which is rather sad and a bit naff. Bunce's contribution is no more valid than the next man and let's face it, when he does post it rarely goes beyond a sentence. I personally don't think he knows anymore about boxing that some of the informed guys on here, he just happens to be a journalist and part time tv and radio presenter who gets to spout his opinions to a wider audience in a personality that seems to attract people. No, this site does not need Steve Bunce, like it doesn't need you, me or anyone else.

This thread was created for a few reasons. Its not the fact that he didn’t mention boxrec – its that he seemed to make a point of naming countless other boxing forums (most of which I had not heard of) and not boxrec. It’s the hidden agenda issue that got me, not the simple issue of him not mentioning boxrec. It seemed like a childish reaction that was unnecessary. And I agree with the posters that say his show is full of crappy “humour”. Its like watching your dad trying to be funny. “lets give a (fake) round of applause for my old mate, we go back a long long way, I used to feed him rusks on his dad’s porch, ENTER SAID BOXERS NAME…” ringside is much better, even tho nelson still seems like he tries too hard to read the autocue!

Let's not get this out of perspective, fellas.

Buncey didn't mention BoxRec on his show - it's entirely his choice and it really is no big deal.

As well as the negatives about him quoted, there are positives too, let's not forget.

And no, I'm not being sarky.
