I think we all thought that Chris Eubank Jr looked very good in his first fight a few weeks ago. He looked very rounded for a fighter making his debut and has recieved plenty of deserved compliments as a result. They way he set himself, his ring generalship, his punch repatoire and overall composure made him look beyond his years and somone who looked like he was having his 10th fight, not his debut. Because of these attributes and the connection with his dad, Chris Jr has created a bit of a media storm and seems set to have a very good career and has certainly got people's attention very quickly in his career.

My question is who else down the years has made this kind of an impact at the start of his career ?

One i would go with would be Naseem Hamed

I thought he looked good for a debut, but certainly wasn't blown away with him. I agree the hype was big and yes he did handle it well, but i thought there was alot of work for him to do, to make a good pro.

Amir Khan got a very big build up to his debut, thats the most recent i can think of

Agreed, but i think for his first fight against a decent opponent he did well and i don't think there is any denying that he has developed a media storm around him, hyped or not. I'm not getting carried away and i know he has a long way to go, but i still think he was done well and will have a good career.

Audley Harrison along with Khan both made there debuts under such a hype , and to some extent James Degale

I really hope that Junior makes it; it brings out the nostalgia in the boxreckers and also the excitement of seeing something new also.

I think the difference being that there had already been media interest in Harrison, Khan and DeGale through the Olympics, where as Eubank Jr has created a bit of media attention throught that first fight which is the first time a lot of us have seen him. Granted, there was media interest because of his dad, but at that stage no-one knew of his potential.

Frankie gavin had a lot of hype. Also tyson fury for is size and age.

I heard Chris Sn had taken him around the gyms learning from the best, so that experience alone would make you a more complete package. Who does he train under at home?

from what i've read from Snr, he's made sure he hasn't had the silver spoon treatment, and that if he wants to make it he has to suffer a bit on the way up. great ethos. i wonder how this compares with chavez jr? although he looked fairly tidy last weekend

Surely AUdley's debut was the biggets ever? He was our first boxing gold medal for years, was a heavyweight, he signed a huge deal with the BBC.

A pretty fair showing of his skills to my mind. Its going to be a while before he is matched competitively and we can see properly how good he is, but with some good learning bouts he should do well. Obviously the name he has and his famous Dad are doing a lot to get him noticed but the rest is up to him. Chris Snr will make sure he is groomed well which will give him a big advantage. If he does do well, and I think he will, the combination of him and and his Dad at his bouts should make the next few years very exciting and interesting. This is what boxing needs to make it the popular sport it once was.
To answer the question, I have to put Khan and Harrison at the top of my list. There are others but in recent years they are the two that stand out. Sadly Harrison was a huge disappointment but Khan has proved himself against very good opponents. Naz with his showmanship, style and gob, made a huge impact in his early career and he went on to become a great champion.

Debut fight, give him a chance. They wouldnt put him in with someone with 15 wins, 12 by KO would they!!!. He needs to learn, but he did show he has some skills, so lets see how well he does. I cant see them hanging about with him. I expect to see him put to the test in around a year.

I don't think hamed was as known for his debut, although he didn't take long to get on itv. I think khan, degale and audley Harrison where even bigger to start with then eubank junior, his only heard of by many because of his dad, if it wasn't for channel 5, we might not even be talking about him now.
I hope he progresses well, I don't think he will progress as fast as degale or groves

Was he matched for it to be competitive? was the stoppage even a good call?? ... of course not to both questions.

He did look as if he has tallent. But no more than most other hyped prospects.

I shall reserve judgement untill he is in with a guy who isn`t expected to fall over asap ... so another 10-15 fights atleast I would imagine.

Give him a chance? How about the first post on here? Stop blowing smoke up his arse, then people won't criticise.

I don't think it was a great fight but i do think it was an impressive performance from eubank considering the opponent was so tricky. I actually would have liked to have seen him in with someone who wanted to win I think then you will see the best of jnr. He's young and very raw but you can see he has bundles of potential i'm looking forward to watching his career unfold hopefully he'll entertain like his dad did who for me is one of the most intriguing fighters ever to grace a boxing ring.

Agreed, you have to be something really special to make it big time with out the backing of mainstream tv, ie hatton !

Maybe I'm calling this wrong, but I actually feel for Eubank Jnr.
Where is the lad's identity ?
All those films transposing his face onto his dads.
Then the ring entrance - identical.
Posing - identical.
Casting all that aside, he has a massive hill to climb to be anything approaching as good as his old fella.
Getting technical, ok a decent debut but let's keep it real.
The opponent never hit back, covered up, and Eubank ran out of ideas.
He didn't demonstrate any power for me, and I am waiting with baited breath to see what happens when he has to take a shot.

I think you will find he will have a decent career. He looked more mature than someone having their first fight, yes their FIRST fight. I haven't been swept along by the hype, i can go back to watching Minter, Conteh and Watt when i was very young, so iv'e seen a lot of pro debuts and despite the obvious hype around his name, i think he will do very well.

I think he looked very impressive, yes he may not of been fighting a contender but that was his debut and he only had 20 something amateur bouts. He will get alot better but we cant really say hes going to have a good career he may have a terrible chin.
Also, i think at some point Snr will have to step back as in the ring entrance he was the first one we saw.
to sum up his debut - well worked win, fast hands and good body punches.

Jr is overrated.
