Is this different to the title Helenius v Chisroa is for?

Helenius Chisora is for the EBU, the actual European title. The EU belt is under the jurisdiction of the EBU but I think it only only covers European Union member countries.

I hope this won't be like Fury v Belshaw 2

I really like towers met him at a weigh in few month back seemed like a really good lad, hope he smashes fury, but cant see hennesey putting him in with him tbh

Towers is 32 , so he can't afford a long apprenticeship. His management may as well take the fight as its probably the best payday he'll get in the forseeable future

And Fury can fight for EU and still holding Commonwealth and british title? Too many titles, no? A fight with Towers could be a decent British title defense. Fury doesn't need EU title for be better ranked, he won Chisora and he is now fighting for EBU with Helenius.

It is not a problem at all more of a benefit financially as I remember that both Sir Henry Cooper and Lennox Lewis held the British, Commonwealth and the European titles simulationously in their careers along and Cooper lost the lot to Joe Bugner and he in turn lost them to Jack Bodell, and regained them when he fought Richard Dunn in 1976 knocking him out in 1 round.

Looking forward to this. After Audley Harrison, Towers was my 2nd choice to fight Fury next.

Agree...doesn't really need the EU title. Assuming Fury is allowed mandatory British & Commonwealth defences, either (or both) would do for this.

Of those ranked above Towers, I think Fury would learn more going in with Sprott or Sexton (leaving Price & McDermot out due to their scheduled fight). Towers would probably make the most TV-friendly fight though.

How does that work then? How does fighting for a belt become a financial benefit? I was under the impression that the fighters paid a sanctioning fee for whichever belt they fought for and then fighting for a title could be used as leverage to earn more through ticket sales and TV. But in this case surely the British or Commonwealth would be more lucrative than the EU title? Are you saying that there is prize money, or similar, available?

I've honestly never understood why there hasn't been a wholesale boycott of sanctioning bodies by boxers, promoters, etc as they do nothing but take money out of the sport.

I think its partly down to the TV companies paying more for a title fight. I've also struggled as to why boxers pay santioning fees for what is a pretty worthless title.

If this happens towers will be way out of his depth he is a nice guy but i don`t think he is anywhere near furys level. fury should give us the best of british fight we all want and that is Fury v Price early in the new year if fury vacates the british and commonwealth titles before this fight happens then i for one will be gutted.

would have been a mismatch a few fights ago when Towers was like 9-0 and Fury hadnt had the crap almost knocked out of him by three guys in a row.

I think it's abit of a mis-match, Fury's approaching world level and Tower's approaching domestic level.
Still I think Hennessey likes unbeaten fighters on Fury's record - I really think Fury doesn't care who he fights, just seems to want to fight often, very refreshing. He's certainly won me over. I can honestly say I look forward to his fights more than almost anyother boxer, he's got something about him, still raw but exciting.

I don't rate Towers at all, having seen him live on a few occasions. I predict an easy win for Fury if this takes place, probably via stoppage.

Towers is big and nothing more. Fury will win easily.
