"Proper" in the Buncey sense of the word.

This weekend sees the start of the great Boxing subscription channel experiment with the shuffling of allegedly behind its paywall.

There are two big cards that will be the first sorties in the PPV battle with Sky, PrimeTime, Premier and Channel 5 in allegedly bid to truly become "The New Home of Boxing".

Question is, are you in? We've had the poll that suggests people weren't convinced in the run up, but like so many things in life, when the vital moment comes you bung it all on black, cross your fingers and hope.

So, this saturday night we have a decent line up of Heavyweight action that will be on at about 10pm followed by a very decent card in New York, culminating in the Cotto v Margarito rematch.

Me? I am morally against the idea of a subscription channel, but have rationalised the cost and taken the plunge. If not only to be able to watch the fights, but to be in a position to complain about the service if it all goes belly up (I'm a true Brit in that I like to actively seek out things about which to complain!)

Even though this is a top weekend of boxing, I won't be purchasing due to the minimum 6 month subscription that you have to sign up to according to the website. I'm going travelling in January so it wouldn't make any sense for me to sign up. It's a pity they aren't offering a month-by-month rolling subscription. So I guess I'm not a "proper" boxing fan.

TBH I will subscribe but I would like a bit of info on repeat shows etc… At this time of year there are always visitors and family etc… I can’t always guarantee that I am in front of my TV on Saturday night. So I need to know it’ll be on Sunday etc…

No, I am not a proper boxing fan either. There goes my chances of getting Buncey to hand-sign my copy of The Fixer!

I'm obviously not a 'proper' fan. I'd love to watch some of the fights, mainly John Murray but i wont watch them as i refuse to subscribe

I'm not a proper fan as I refuse to be tied into a six month contract with Warren. I wouldn't as a boxer and I certainly wouldn't as a consumer.

I'll keep an eye out for the HBO version.

As much as I want to see the fights I think this is a bad thing for UK boxing, and is designed purely to improve the profit margin of it's promoter and to give him greater control, which in turn will drive boxing even further into the margin. So no, I obviously am not a "proper" boxing fan.

Sky average around 100,000 viewers a fight which includes casual fans, how many proper fans are there?

I have thousands of fights and VHS & DVD all around the house, in cupboards, wardrobes, the worktops in the kitchen. Memorabilia on the walls. All issues of Ring & Boxing News from the last 20yrs. Books on boxing everywhere! My Sky+ is maxed out with boxing. My fecking wife now hates me as she is tripping over everything and the fact she can't record Deal or No Deal, Eastenders, Obscurity Factor etc.

So no, as has been now been pointed out, I am not a "proper" fan.

A select few continue to squeeze as much money out of the sports as possible, all the while the sport is dying.

How is boxing supposed to attract fans when they can't see it?

Or if they can see it they need a degree to figure out how to view or a wallet nearly as big as the national debt.

Strange you should mention the Margarito/Cotto figure which by the way is one of my favourite fights of the last 10 years and was the fight that made me fall back in love with boxing again after a few years of being just a casual but yeah after seeing this figure a few weeks ago of only 14,000 on Setanta i changed my mind about Box notion being good for boxing especially as that 14,000 could seem like a huge figure compared to the rematch figure on Box notion.

Anyone got any viewing figures for Boxnotion for October/November?

Same here, i only follow the sport closely as it's cheap to follow and you can casually chat with any Tom, Dick or Harry about who the current British/European/World champions are

Man, this mirrors my experience. I'm just about to put most of my magazines on ebay, just to shut the mrs up.

If anyone is interesting in buying about 25 years worth of Boxing News from mid-70s onwards, let me know. Instant collection!

And 50+ various US mags from '88 to '94. Some hilarious sh1t in there but I've just got no room.

Am toying with the idea of subscribing as I've just has Virgin Media installed but I am put off by the 6 month commitment period as this effectively gives Warren licence to put awful fights on whilst knowing that he has tied people in.

I believe (don't hold me to it) that Virgin customers can sign up on a month to month basis.
