Lawton is a good opinion piece writer when it comes to football, but he knows nowhere nar as much as he makes out about boxing . In fact he regularly makes an arsehole out of himself. He championed Chad Dawson to fight Calzaghe when he had never seen Dawson fight, and read the article itself, he seems to think Ali pulled out of the Holmes fight after 7 rounds.

Lawton wrote the main post-fight piece on Haye-Klitschko for the Indie and he absolutely savaged Haye. Most of it seemed to be based on that fight though. I got the impression that wasn't somebody who wrote about boxing on a regular basis.

Funny how you only get that kind of article written when a boxer is badly injured.

You didn't get reams of copy after, for example, the first Ward v Gatti fight. No-one says 'ban boxing, no fighter should have to go through the kind of pain Gatti went through in round etc etc'... Oh no... only complaint is if the rematch isn't made quick enough.

I was at the London Arena that night and can say hand on heart I have never witnessed anything like it in all the years I've been in or watching the sport. It was an unbelievable display of courage from both men and the outcome just tragic. But hey, it's a dangerous game. For those who don't agree with it... by all means go out and try to get it banned, it's a free country. Otherwise, just don't watch it.
