Sorry for another thread chaps but just wanted to look at the positives;

1) khan proved his chin- took some cracking shots
2) will bring him back down to earth again, as good and special as he is he's no mayweather and needs to stay motivated to remain successful
3) he gets the chance to avenge a loss, bound to be lucrative - and it wasn't a damaging loss
4) he must be thanking his lucky stars that was on sky had he lost on a primetime show his career might be over

Khan is a world class fighter very capable of picking a world title back up in his next fight. Why could his career be over after one controversial points loss to a good fighter, regardless of the channel that showed it?

Peterson isn't THAT good.

He's better than I thought he was, but I didn't think he was anything more than a solid, European class type, he surprised me with his willingness to march forward and apply pressure, but his footwork wasn't anything special and his workrate wasn't exceptional either.

When you consider the attributes that Hatton possessed, from 2003-2007, he could almost ghost his way onto an opponents chest and draw the lead too, before landing hard shots of his own.....

As I said in my earlier thread before it was merged with the troll ones I'm a Khan fan, but last night was a bad defeat. Not in the sense that he was annihilated or lost to a bum, but his flaws were exposed badly by a man fighting out of his natural style.

He sure can come back, but a lot of work needs to be done, in particular how he reacts when an opponent can close down the distance and land shots on a regular basis. There needs to be less talk about the perceived ''glass jaw'' and more about his complete ineptness on the inside and his excessive movement which no doubt empties the tank quicker.

He makes exciting fights. That'll be enough to keep him in the mix.

Fair comment. For all his faults, Khan brings bags of excitement and that's what the yanks want above all else.

A hard sell to the public?

People will still tune in to watch Audley Harrison in their millions, they will surely do the same for Khan.

and last night's fight was very entertaining and competitiive, which never hurts in terms of ratings.

But had the fight been on primetime box office he'd be fucked I think

Yet Lamont's footwork was infinitely better than the skittering Bambi-impression of Khan; Peterson simply stepped across & marched (slowly) at the correct angle, whilst Amir burned off 20,000 calories zooming around to places he didn't need to be in before settling on the correct position to punch.

Also, it somewhat exposed what a proper operator is going to do with his frenetic back-pedalling (i.e., walk straight fvcking through it & beat him up) unless he gets some thought into it rather than the panicky thrashing into which he so naturally falls.

Oh yeah, another positive of his loss: it shows some bloody judges know how to score both bodypunches & that they value proper, cleanly delivered, hard blows over flashy tapping.

I for one find both heartening.

you don't have to have super-quick feet to have great/ good footwork

ask yourself leeds, who's got the quicker feet Manny or JMM?

then ask yourself who has the better footwork

That goes without saying.

Khan's footwork is abysmal.

Not only does he waste energy, but he puts himself in positions where he doesn't need to be, and because he's forever moving around he can't punch with any authority.

As for Pac/JMM - Pac obviously had much quicker feet, though the gap has narrowed, and JMM applies what he has better.

Khan has fast feet, not good feet. I was just pointing out that Peterson is just a solid operator that has reasonable/good footwork. It wasn't as if he ghosted his way onto Khan's chest like Hatton used to do at his best.

Khan is top class and will come again, this decision has hardly damaged him. The most important thing he is a damn exciting fighter who puts bums on seats.
Do you think Peterson will want to fight the likes of Mcluskey for 50k instead of a lucrative rematch with Khan?
