I thought this would be the best place to ask, since there are so many in the industry & as well as knowledgeable posters on this forum.

I am planning a trip to the States in the summer of 2012. I am going to New York, Vegas, Houston and LA and plan to visit a number of gyms there to do a bit of research, so I will be targeting good gyms with top boxers and trainers.

Rather than just take a few internal flights I am planning to drive across and then fly back to New York. I want to plot a route across the States that will take in worthwhile gyms to visit, boxing-related places to visit etc. I will try to stick to the route 66 where possible and I am interested in meeting and interviewing boxers & trainers (active & retired). Also, if there is anyone on here who could assist me with introductions with various trade folk on my US trek please PM - i would really appreciate it.

I have up to 4 weeks to carry this out.

Suggestions on gyms in New York, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Vegas, and LA and other cities/towns in between would be appreciated.

Thanks! :TU:

You should try and tie it up with this year's IBHOF inductions.

A trip north of NY to Catskill surely is a must to see Kevin Rooney and the gym where Tyson learned his trade? The gym was closed when I was there but most people said Kevin Rooney is great and very approachable.

Ideally, I would love to, but I can only go between mid-July - end August.

Yes, I will add this to my list - I am glad to hear Rooney is very approachable :TU: What other gyms in New York/Philly/Chicago should I prioritise?
