Nah, he's never boxed. He can't even write. It's amazing how far the gift of the gab can get someone.

Maybe having the gift of the boxing gab could be renamed "Buncing" !!

I'm not quite sure how briefly it was, but he boxed for Fitzroy Lodge for a short while in his youth, I'll try and find out more...

Cheers, mate. It would be nice to know exactly how bad this guy was.

At first i found him an amusing novelty but now he has become an annoying buffoon with his incessant speeches about being in the know and just talking plain gibberish.

He has a great knack of "kissing the arse that pays his wages"

i think he is a good laugh

he's a bit wide of the mark a lot of the time but for the more casual fan he's good to have on there.

did anyone used to have ITV digital......that was when I first noticed him on boxing first (had good American fights every 2 weeks)
he has grown on me now but he still comes out with crap once in a while.

Ican't stand the fat prick, he's a tit. Have you read any of his columns in boxing monthly? It's just an excuse for him to do a bit of name dropping, thinly disguised as a boxing article.
Adios.

Apparently Hopkins-DLH is an 8 million fight, Hopkins-Tito is a 10 million fight and Hopkins-Jones is a 20 million dollar fight.

I agree he is a tit, but he is entertaining at least. He does come out with some crap once in a while but so do most. Didn't Woodhall just say that Eastman has as much chance of beating Hopkins than RJ? Bunce is OK in my book. He was on ESB a while back.

I like Bunce because he's outspoken. But he also knows what to say to keep his job.

Now then guys....I started slagging him a couple of weeks ago and actually got a personal reply from the man! Fair play,I say, at least he browses this site and got the balls to email me.He does have good boxing knowledge but likes to 'go on' a bit - hence our annoyance but his BBC wage ! Catch his small column in quality daily 'The Independent',much better, the sports editor gives him such a small amount of space even he cant ramble on!!!
Ive invited him to train with me down the new Gleasons gym in Tanner st.,lets see if he's got any bollocks.... 8) I'll keep you posted.

I know one of those in our pub, he is called Jeff. It is hard to find normal Boxing fans who know much but once i was overhearing a conversation Jeff and his mate were having about Boxing. Jeff was pissed and his mate was clearly only a casual Tyson, Lewis, Ali etc fan and was not really interested. As his mate disappeared through a side exit Jeff picked on me and barraged me with his none existant knowledge, little did Jeff know i was a Boxing fan! I quickly spun his Mike Tyson rantings back at him and proceeded to baffle him with my replies, Jeff got confused as i quizzed him with Naseem's next opponent could be (this is a few years ago) names like Corrales, Barrera or Morales. Jeff was stumped!! He removed his ill informed rear at the next available opportunity and suffice to say i never saw Jeff in there again.
Just a little story i thought i would share with you all

On this site (which ((Coincidentally)) is populated by alot of "in-the business" Journo's and the like, who don'work on Sky, the Beeb and so on) we like our boxing journalists to be:
a. non-contraversial.
b. not to have an opinion.
c. not be willing to voice the above non-opinion.
d. 100% accurate, all the time.
Sounds like a very exciting and interesting guest to have on your show doesn't he!
A lesser man, would imply that the residents here feel that Bunce has got the gigs they wanted and glory in seizing any opportunity to put the boot in - NOT ME THOUGH!
I agree that he is a poor writer - but he is more passionate, energetic, contraversial and damn it - interesting than the vast majority of potential guests.
What are the choices - Colin Fart (The Sun) - the blokes a Benaud lookalike with NONE of the charm, knowledge etc. Manages to talk for 10 minutes and say NOTHING
Steve Lillis (The Star) - personally i can barely understand him (stuttering and stilted delivery - not comfortable on-screen) although guys round here tell me he knows his stuff and is a really good guy - stick to sparring with Sulaiman. I don't want to listen to someone "errr, errr errrrrring" on TV.
BUnce is the best TV journo in the UK IMO - now if you want to talk about a poor writer though, lets get going on Steve Farhood!!!
Question - Do you think that Steve Farhood considers himself to be funny?
He is the writer that annoys me the most, trotting out tired cliches week in and out, consistently using weak analogies/metaphor etc. but worst of all his own brand of (lead-lined, silver handled) pithy wit.
I always have this image of him chuckling to himself as he re-reads his own stuff (as if he re-reads it!)
Few things annoy as much as the "I'm a bit mad me" types and Farhood qualifies.

Hitman Hatton hit the nail on the head when he stated Buney is good for the casual viewer.
Bunce gives an enjoyable light hearted edge to the team. After all it might get a little dull with just Woodhall, Inverdale and another serious analyst. A slightly exaggerated passionate statement here and there never hurt anyone. Good luck to him.
For those who dislike him because of some (or all) of things he says I guess I can relate a little. Although I would count myself as a bit more than a casual viewer my boxing knowledge is very limited.
However, my knowledge of football is quite good and having to listen some of Ron Atkinson's statements is incredibly painful. The guy clearly is an expert of yesteryear given by his recent lack of achievements and I would rather have a more knowledgable analyst in his role. However, he too may be enjoyable for some.
I guess its a case of swings and roundabouts.
The BBC provides good boxing coverage and I think the mix of former boxer and journalist is ideal.
If I want very accurate boxing analysis I will come here.
Enough said.

Right; Bunce never had any pro fights BUT had 50-odd amateur bouts, winning two-thirds ! He beat some top boys, apparently, and went on to be an ABA coach who trained some decent lads, one of whom beat Michael Watson.
After this,my debut boxing write-up,I rekon I'll qualify to work for the BBC no problem!!! You aint seen or heard the last of the 'weazle yet !!!

Seems like a split decision on this board on who likes Buncey and who doesn't.
Personally I like the bloke as he comes across as a real boxing fan, rather than just sitting there nodding his head and moaning. He does babble on a bit and just seems to get excited about fights and who could be fighting who etc etc.
I can see how the more knowledgeable fight fans could get fed up with him though.
