Anyone think Froch beats Joe C now?

Joe would have chased Ward out of the ring last night.
Ward was tired at the end yet he didn't really do much.
Some on here think Froch is 'neck and neck' with Calzaghe....
I think Froch, Benn, Collins, Eubank, Watson would have all lost to Ward but Calzaghe beats him
Calzaghe is by far and away Britains greatest ever SM.
One last thing, I hate Wards ugly ass style, trully horrible to watch.

Tbh I'm a huge Froch fan but I agree. He looks great when the other guy comes for a war, but if the other guy wants to box then Carl inevitably looks a bit clueless.
And yes, unlike the panel/commentators, I thought Ward's rush and hold tactics made for an awful spectacle. Taking nothing away from him, he did what he had to do, but I wouldn't rush to pay and watch him fight.

Ward's style may be ugly and tough to deal with but it was strange Carl saying he's not used to the leaning in style hitting and slipping because Ward's done that in plenty of fights. You'd think they would have been working on that in the gym.

Hopefully this silly myth can now well and truly be put to bed. Calzaghe would have not broken sweat beating Froch's ass.
Froch is game and tough, but elite he is not. He's lost to the two best SMW in the world, beaten an old Glen Johnson, hometown decision v Dirrell, beat two blown up middleweights (one of which he was 14 seconds from losing to). He did however get a decent win against Pascal.
As I say, game but not elite. The gameness clouds people's judgement and means he's overrated.

Me too, last night was an anti climax and I get the feeling that Ward 'style' is one big anti climax.

I was watching just to see if anything out of the ordinary happened like the clear favourite lost but sadly...

Froch looked like he was wading through a bath of treacle at times.

lol yeah he does. miles of the pace at times. He falls for some strange things like when the fighters broke themselves Ward would jump straight back in with a quick punch but Carl would almost wait for them to get back behind their lines of battle before resuming hostilities.

I dont think he is over rated he's a great fighter. Just because a few clowns thought he would beat Calzaghe doesnt make Froch over rated that makes them fools.

I think people were aking the question "Will his ACHIEVEMENTS be equal to Calzaghe if he beats Ward..........."
I certainly never asked the question " Would Froch have beaten Calzaghe........"
I have never thought that Froch could or ever would beat Calzaghe.

This is very harsh in my opinion. You've looked at it from the pessimist side of things. An Old Glen Johnson has beaten and competed with many good fighters, age does not affect johnson. Direll came to run and didn't do enough to rip the title from Froch, Close rounds got scored to Froch just as the close rounds got scored for kessler in his away fight. Kessler was a good effort that he arguably won, jermain taylor was a mesmerising comeback at the end. You can call him a blown up middle but he was the same size as carl and struggled with middle for ever, Abraham was a great performance and kept his discipline throughout, and the pascal win got enhanced when pascal moved up a weight to win light heavy titles.
On another note, Calzaghe would have made Ward quit. Calzaghe was truly under appreciated and its just a shame that a tournament like the super six came shortly after his retirement

Or Taylor boxed his head off for 11 and a half rounds; Abraham was ujust a big banger at midleweight who done nothing at Super. Theere was no argument about the Kessler fight. It was clear as day. Dirrell was a lucky fight and yes, he got the nod. But what's Dirrell done since?
Pascal is a good scalp, but he's hardly elite. Johnson, don't make me laugh. He went into that fight with 14 defeats on his record having done nothing for years. And people say RJJ was an old man for Calzaghe!

Ah, memories. People tend to greatly enhance the "legend" and love the back in the day stories.
Joe was a top fighter but today alone I have read he is virtually unbeatable and was always exciting to watch ( hence why he was pulling in 2k at Cardiff ice rink when he was WBO champ )
He would have beaten Froch, yes. But without breaking sweat?

is this the same guy who I certainly see sweating against Bika? Calzaghe loved a tear up, he would have gone into the fight with little love lost for Carl. Are people telling me he would have not engaged and stood and traded at some point with Carl? Of course he would!
He would have decisioned him, pretty clearly but by no means would he have run rings around him.
Never seen anyone here claim Froch would beat him. I have seen many claim he has more balls and was more willing though, and that it showed in their respective records.

calzaghe looked worse for 6 round against hopkins than froch did against ward.....
Froch turned in the worst non performance of his life.....
Ward is 27 and bernard was 43-44.
Calzaghe showed his greatness fighting back on the inside with determination...but he still lost imo as hopkins tired and spoiled....the point is joe had that even at that stage of his career to turn it around and make it close.
Froch has done this all his career with johnson, taylor, and others....but last night he looked like a guy who went to the well too often...his reflexes off, he didnt seem as determinded as usual....look at the few times he did do a whirlwind calzaghe impersonation....ward looked uncomfrotable.....
But your right, this shows calzaghe was better and just a higher level.

no chance benn loses to ward.... benns pulverising power and bob and weave defence would have done for ward. U see ward protects his body and chin and face so well, all tucked in, but the one area thats right there, is the top of his head and temples, and thats the area benns wild swings would smash to pieces.....benn would wobble any man when he hit them there.....eubanks and collins would be outsmarted.....with michael watson we never saw his peak...so i cant comment.....herol graham tho im sure would have taken ward to the cleaners..... Frochy just met the worst style to fight and had his worst night, he seemed to lack his usual war mentality and workrate and reflexes....and hunger.
Ward will never be a star he is just so ugly to watch and i dont think hes a great technician....sven ottke for all the talk of his ugly style i loved watching him he was something so special....i think ottke would have taken ward...

No chance that a peak Joe Calazghe would beat a peak Carl Froch without breaking a sweat!
You could see Joe throwing a hell of a lot of punches and taking Froch into a warzone as the fight progressed and the fans roared, but that is just the kind of fight Carl loves. I think Joe would win by UD unless Froch could get the KO.

I got to agree with this
Too much was made of Froch`s win against Abraham.
What we saw lastnight from Froch is what every critic has pointed out a 100 times before ..
I would love to see Cleverly in with Froch next.
It would make for an excellent fight - but one that Nathan really makes a statement in .. maybe 1st guy to stop Froch??

Calzaghe would have never participated in super six. Joe had his own version of the tournament - six years past their best (super). At least when he travelled anyway.
Styles make fights and Ward was just all wrong for Froch. Speed kills! Calzaghe waited until Jones and Hopkins slowed and he still struggled to be fair.
Many of our own fighters gave Calzaghe problems. I dont think Calzaghe could have schooled Carl like he did Lacy. It would have been a cracker - and dont forget - Froch wanted the fight, Calzaghe had plenty of chances to take the fight and never seemed keen to me.
Still, Calzaghe was a great British world champ - just as Froch was. We should be proud of what both achieved.

Good post.
Froch and Ward's styles didn't mix, the fight wasn't great. Ward's style is terrible to watch, I hope they don't fight each other again tbh. Time for the cobra to move on, people are reading too much into a half decent fight.

Spot on, on all points, Yiddo. It is amusing reading how Calzaghe would have 'done this' and 'done that' and beat so and so and was untouchable etc...its gets boring and is so pie eyed.

Ward beat Froch because he was able to control the tempo of the fight, something he simply wouldn't be able to do against Joe. Calzaghe would work him too hard and he'd crumble. UD for me.
As for Froch Calzaghe, well its always been a no contest for me. Another UD unless Calzaghe Margarito'd his ass with concrete.
