Terry Norris v Thomas Hearns @ 154

This matchup at light middle. Could Norris use his speed to get to Hearns early, his only chance perhaps?
Norris' speed would have been redundant versus Hearns as Tommy was just as quick, if not quicker.Roco wrote:This matchup at light middle. Could Norris use his speed to get to Hearns early, his only chance perhaps?

Hearns had more speed, more power and better boxing skills than Norris
Tommy was far faster than norris..hearns was grease lightning at 154 and 147.Syntax Error wrote:Norris' speed would have been redundant versus Hearns as Tommy was just as quick, if not quicker.Roco wrote:This matchup at light middle. I would say that this would be a decisive win for Tommy.
I'm always shocked when people say that Hearns would have KOd a prime Leonard at 154.elmersalsa wrote:The great Thomas Hearns would have been too much for Terry Norris. Hearns fought a peak Leonard & an over the hill Leonard & never came close to knocking him out, so why would he have KOd a still prime Leonard at 154lb?
I could envisage him outpointing a comebacking Leonard in '84ish, but I find it hard to believe that anyone KOs a still 'living' Leonard.
People always cite the Roberto Duran KO, but that was a freakish result & is no measure how Hearns would do against an opponent who was bigger & physically strong, plus someone he'd already lost to previously.

The reason? the great Sugar Ray Leonard was never that good at 154. Tommy at 154lbs was a complete monster. It was the perfect weight class for him. Not for Leonard nor Duran.
I saw how Hearns demolished Duran and James Hutchings in '84. It was the best Tommy Hearns at that time. Put the Leonard that fought Kevin Howard in '84 and it would be a mismatch. Even if Leonard is in the best of shape, at that weight class (154lbs), in no way beats the great Thomas Hearns.
Whoah didnt you watch the SRL-Hearns rematch? If anyone was totally shot it was hearns not leonard, even leonard said it before the fight, and that "shot " hearns had leonard on the floor twice....make no mistake for all his chivalry under pressure and ability to come back strong SRL was hurt badly in that fight but ray being ray he made it look like he wasnt.Syntax Error wrote:I'm always shocked when people say that Hearns would have KOd a prime Leonard at 154.elmersalsa wrote:The great Thomas Hearns would have been too much for Terry Norris.
