Another test for Calzaghe at light heavy against one of the most thunderous punchers of all. Does Foster manage to put Calzaghe away or is he thoroughally outboxed?

Foster would win. I think his power is the key. Calzaghe would be forced to box too defensively to win.

Foster by KO in 1 or 2. On another planet to the two 40+ light-heavies JC boxed.

If you've seen Bob Foster v. Mike Quarry, I think you've seen how a Foster-Calzaghe fight would play out . . . By that I mean, Calzaghe would have moments when he would look good - and even make Foster look bad by comparison - but Foster would be biding his time, getting his timing down, and then he would stop Calzaghe in brutal fashion.

Foster had such range, timing & seamless offense. It's a genuine shame he didn't have the competition to truly test himself. I think you have this nailed, Ezz. Calzaghe would be unusually quiet in terms of volume here.

Bob Foster in brutal fashion, and I am an unashamed fan of JC.

Ditto. How anyone could think Calzaghe has a hope in hell against Foster is beyond me

This sums the fight up very well in my view.

Mate, Finnegan, and his bro, were world class fighters. Both of them gave Bob Foster and Marvin Hagler two iof their hardest fights. But, yes, on the whole you are probably right.

I'd expect that once Calzaghe felt the power he'd be quiet but Bob might let him have a little success so he could starch him like Ray says.

Foster has the range , the jab and the big punch to stop Calzaghe around the 8th

I don't even think I'd favour Calzaghe over Chris Finnegan, much less Foster.

1 punch and 1 forearm. I am not a nuthugger but I am always pissed off when everyone jumps on the 2 fights that Calzaghe had versus Jones & Hopkins. You would think he lost those fights. Jones & Hopkins are legends, I get it and nothing bad can said about them. They were shadows when Calzaghe fought them. Tell that to the guys that Hopkins fought after the Calzaghe fight. Calzaghe was British so no respect going his way overall. If he had've been American with a better background story he'd be looked upon a lot differently.

Yeah, he should have moved up to Light Heavy earlier and that hurts him. However, Calzaghe may have been knocked down by both Hopkins & Jones in the last 2 fights of his career but he showed what he was about by getting up and winning both fights. Jones hardly got a look in afterwards. Hopkins tried to cheat his way to the finish.

It is always mentioned that Jones & Hopkins were on the slide but Calzaghe was'nt in the flush of youth either. This is a guy who always found a way to win, got up when he was down and showed that he could hang with the best. I don't think we ever saw the best that Calzaghe had. He had to change his style somewhat towards the later part of his career due to bad hands. Overall he adapted to his opponents, ground out the wins when things didn't go right, had a good chin and recuperative powers. He did'nt need to juice, did'nt try to cheat or intimidate with racist comments and was always gave a good account of himself.


With regards to a fight with Foster though Prime for Prime I would go with Foster late or on points. Calzaghe would raise his game but fall slightly short.

Jones definitely was, and even if Joe wasn't at his best he had far more left than RJJ. Horrible fight to go out on.

Another mismatch? That would be probably worse than Foster vs Tiger. I cannot see Joe Calzaghe win this fight in any fashion.

Calzahe gets jolted by electricity early....unlike byron mitchell Foster would keep him down.
