Ran into Ike recently. Still weighing in around 154 lbs!!! Looking good.

Shame he got robbed by Forrest. He could've possibly went on to get bigger paydays.

What's Ike doing these days? Last I heard, he was managing a hotel.

What's going on with Bastie Samir? I saw him fight in China and know he turned pro. His style was geared towards the pros, no amateurs, and he's an excellent fighter.

< I still believe that was DLH's biggest gift decision. Quartey won 7 or 8 rounds, but the DLH bias was on full tilt at the time.

yea the de la hoya fight was close but probably a bit of gift to Oscar who then got robbed in the Trindad fight..i am more partial to the robberies when they are going for the guy I am rooting for ..

I had Ike by a point over Oscar, nothing close to a robbery there. Great finish by DLH in the 12th in what is a really overrated fight. Two great rounds and not much more.

Oscar's biggest gift was getting 8 rounds against Whitaker when he won 3 or 4.

Thanks...any reason why he's been out of action since April? I personally think fighters should fight every 2-3 months minimum, of course depending on what sort of fight the were in previously. For someone like Samir he ought to be fighting regularly, don't you think?

I tend to agree with this, but not by as many rounds, though I definitely had it for IKE.

Glad he's doing well. Great fighter. I think his wife passed away a few years back and he stopped fighting then.

Bastie is promoted by Golden Boy, in his last fight he failed the test after the fight. He was taking something to make weight and because it was banned he got a 9 month ban. I'll check up on what's next for him and when he's back in America and let everyone know.

I was over in Las Vegas and was around Bastie a lot, great guy. A real pleasure to be around.

I always detested Oscar; even rooted for Mayorga against him.
However, I thought the Whitaker, Quartey and Sturm fights were all draws. And agree that 116-110 DLH over Whitaker (I believe that was Roth's card) was horrible. I think the sour grapes from the DLH/Quartey fight stem from the 3-point and 4-point margins that the two judges (Morita and a British judge whom I can't recall) scored for Oscar.

Thought De La Hoya drew with Quartey. It was plenty close, & as with the Whitaker fight (and as Rover correctly points out) the cries of, "robbery!" &, "fix!" are exaggerated by virtue of the unusually favourable scoring margins to De La Hoya. In reality, his fight with Quartey was very close.

Likewise for Whitaker. In a clash of two of my all-time favourites, I've scored it one point in either direction more than once. I am slightly more comfortable with a one-point victory for De La Hoya there. No robbery by any stretch, to me.

Sturm, I agree De La Hoya lost --- but it's worth pointing out that he had the decency to admit he was defeated, something guys like Forrest (Quartey) & Mosley (rematch with De La Hoya), who get ten times the praise for their, "class," (even though Mosley is a confessed cheat!) didn't have the balls to do when they received gifts.

Giving Oscar 5 rounds against Whitaker is a fantastic Christmas gift. It wasn't as bad as Ramirez, but right on par with Chavez. Easy Whitaker win and an easy fight to score.

Youre in a pretty distinct minority giving De La Hoya so few rounds, but we all have fights like that, I think.

Still one of my fave moments ever, as an aside, when the ageing Whitaker makes a young, prime De La Hoya - one of the faster-handed boxers of his generation - miss with four or five very quick jabs with head movement alone.

Whitaker was pure, unadulterated genius.

Like I said, I think the margins Oscar won by (especially Roth's 9-3 score in the Whitaker fight) really increased the outrage over those decisions.
