Brook vs Hatton

Rumor is that brook will fight Matthew hatton at the Sheffield arena on march the 17th this is a side ways step in my opinion as i think kell should be in with the very best now and is getting nothing for using fighters as punchbags.
I don't see how this will attract enough fight fans to sell out what is a very big venue (12 thousand capacity) and may be a bit of a wash out, i hope that it all goes well for kell as he is a top top fighter but needs to be fighting the Andre Berto's of the world now to be classed alongside the world elite

my guess is Kell will earn better from fighting Matty Hatt than he would with any of the likely alternatives

I just got a feeling it won't be Matty Hatton

Matthew Hatton is not a step-up from N'Dou and Jennings, he needs better opposition....and soon. Mosley was touted, but he won't come to Sheffield, would have to be in Vegas
That would be a great fight for him to prove if he's world class

It's not that bad a fight guys. Sure Mosley would have been better, but I can live with this.

Not going to encourage HBO to agree to a Khan fight, though. The long, steady, slow progress of Kell goes on

Done much more since he left Warren.

i think its an acceptable fight, Matt did very well in his world title chance given canelos later results vs Rhodes, Gomez, Clintron.

Yep, it's a perfectly fine match. Brook has the problem of trying to establish himself on world level in what is currently the highest profile division in the sport, with two titles ruled out indefinitely whilst Pac and Mayweather campaign at 147.

Sheffield Arena is a big arse venue. It needs a big name opponent like Matthew to help fill it.

this is a good fight fellas whats wrong with you all, it wont fill the sheffield arena but there isnt many fights that will, both fighters are known on the world stage and both will think they will win, it will catch the imagination in sheff no doubt about it

sort of agree - Hatton would be a respectable name on his resume and there are no major stars looking for a fight that soon, especially in the Steel City. Compared to his previous bursts of inactivity, it is at least a fight against a live opponent, even if its hard to see any way in which Hatton can hope for better than a bloody 12 round defeat.

His best win is still over Jennings

I agree that Matt Hatton is not Sugar Shane Mosley; but has the Mosley fight ever been a viable option at this stage? Where is the money gonna come from to get someone like that in the ring? And wld he even take the fight? I doubt it. What's in it for Mosley to start fighting prospects / fringe contenders? When you look at the realistic options, I think this fight makes great sense. Hatton has done 12 rounds with Alvarez (a big LM) and emerged with credit so we know Kell is likely to get 12 rounds in. It will sell thousands of tickets on both sides of Pennines plus most importantly the name recognition will attract the casual fan and help build Kell's profile above the number of the sport's devotees. I think this fight will make the sports pages of the nationals, and that is the whole point.

Its a decent fight imo, Hatton's a name and has recently gave a good account of himself in a world title fight, Euro champ etc - It will up Kell's profile.
He's done a lot better career wise since he's been with Matchroom

Thats bull shit. Jackewicz was ranked 6 by the Ring. Dont think Jennings was ever they high.

I would agree with leforge, Jackewicz was a former EBU champion - Jennings aint even fought for that title.
Ndou, even at that stage, would have given Jennings a hell of a fight.

I think this is a really good fight, we know Hatton comes to fight and win so will push Brook as hard has he has been thus far! Plus, with Hatton giving a good account against Alvarez it will likely spring Kell to the next level.
How can Hatton be an acceptable opponent for Canelo but not for Brook?

Jennings was wasted going down the WBU route.

Hatton is no better than Karpency (and I say that as a much bigger fan of Brook's than Cleverly's). The Hatton's have been very clever in matching Matt against 'old' fighters and he basically tried to run and fob his way through against a weight drained Canelo, although he showed himself to be a right gritty sod.
Hatton is a step back for Brook now, not a bad opponent, but given than Brook has yet to struggle in a fight they need to keep inching the level of opposition up, not down.

Hatton is a former European champion much better than Karpency. Yuriy Nuzhnenko win was good win at European level Karpency is poor.
I preferred Brook to fight Zavcek former champion.

He had no right being The Ring No 6 and had zero ambition by the time he faced Brook. The Ring writes know nothing about non-US boxing so their rankings count for nothing.
I wouldn't rank him higher than that Danish guy who boxed Khan in Bolton once and was high in the WBO rankings.

Maybe but it was much better opponent than Jennings!

Firstly I disagree that Hatton is no better than Karpency and also add that Nathan is a so-called world champion
Also, weight drained Canelo? Is this an attempt to re-write history? Hatton performed well against a naturally bigger guy.
Matthew Hatton has come on a lot in the last couple of years. Don't get me wrong, it's still about a year too late, but it's not the worst fight in the world. Will be a nice earner for Brook and I still believe he will get the big fights before the year is out
