I recently received a number of bonus fights of his on a DVD with another order, and as Id not seen him in action since early last decade, I popped him in.

Wow! An impressive guy indeed. Nice, spearing jab, durable as required, can punch, very methodical, just does not make a lot of errors in there. Is his the longest reign in 112lb history?

My question to those more educated than I in the Flys (Im better in Bantam history)is how do you see Wonjongkam's claim to history panning out? How hed fare with your Wilde's, Perez's and Harada's? What to make of his lengthy tenure at the top, and his unbeaten run?

I'll take Chatchai Sasakul and Daorung Chuvatana from his home country over him prime for prime, to say nothing of the guys you mentioned. They weren't greater all things considered (Wonjongkam has done enough to be rated among the top 5-10 Thai fighters), but I think they may've been more effective at their best.

He gets a lot of love from boxing writers so he wll definitely make the HOF. I have always thought he was a great talent who, like some other talents of the past 10-15 years, (narvaez, john, erdei) spent way too much time making title defenses against poor and overmatched opponents. His run of the past few years, beating good fighters like Kameda, Miranda and Sosa, only makes me more disappointed he never tried to unify the 112-pound division, because there were several other excellent flyweight belt-holders during his prime

Why would you rate Sasakul higher than Wonjongkam?

And also Daorung had his best wins at Bantam.

Re-read this bit again:

In their primes I just think they were more talented fighters, and both hold greater wins than Wonjongkam ever managed.
