Emile Griffith was 80 on Tuesday. The legendary Virgin Islander still holds the record for the most number of rounds fought in world title history: all 339 of them.

I think you are wrong Bennie.

From memory Griffiths last fight was against Alan Minter in 77 or 78.

That would have made him in his mid 50's when he fought Minter.

Good point. Yes, his last fight was against Minter in Monte Carlo in the 70's. But boxingtalk.net are claiming he was 80 on Tuesday! http://boxingtalk.net/pages/green3.htm

He's a legend, I have him in my top twenty of all time. I truly great fighter who never seemed to age. Was always competitive even when way passed his prime. He was never quite the same fighter after the Paret. He did lose to Hurricane Carter in a non-title fight in the first round.

Incidently, he was born in 1938, it is his 66th Birthday today.

Yes, and even Emile mentions that in the boxingtalk.net story. I can't understand why that website is reporting it as his 80th birthday!
