Besides Nigel Benn and Wayne Alexander was Naz our best puncher

Watched vs Barrera in hd the other day and realised although he was outclassed he didn't do that badly and his punches looked huge, he didn't land ought because barrera is well schooled and could pick out hameds long telegraphed shots

I like the way this guy was so aggressive, trying to hit hard with devil on every shot.

What do you lot reckon

I'd stick Lennox and Frank in there too but Naz shades it,

I'd probably say yes although David Haye at Cruiserweight and Nigel Benn at Middlewieght would have to be contenders. Lennox, Frank and Alexander could obviously all bang.

Way too early to categorise him at the moment but David Price could go on to become one of the biggest punchers lb for lb that we've ever had. Hits with awesome force.

Naseem hit excellent fighters very hard at the top level and has to be near the top of a British punchers list.

The middleweight Nigel Benn was a very powerful and aggressive man.

At a lower level; Colin Jones, Ensley Bingham, (what a bout Bingham v Alexander would have been) and Paul Ryan were very good punchers.

Jimmy Wilde, Bob Fitzsimmons, Lennox Lewis, and Naz is my top 4 (not in order). Off the top of my head cannot think of anyone else quite in the bracket of these 4.

Out of some of the more modern ones - Crawford Ashley is worth a mention, as was Pat Barrat and Henry Wharton.

But the first four had it at world level in the extreme.

What world class fighter did Wilde knock out?

Naz for me.... then again, Shavers has lived on the Wirral for that long we should claim him as our own!

I'd say yes, closely followed by haye. I know Lewis punched harder but pure p4p I'd say haye was number 2 !

Wilde was a lethal one punch hitter - he put guys to sleep Julian Jackson style.

For more modern fighters, how about Pat Barrett? His KOs were horrific!

As far as throwing a quality punch, Eubank was king. Although the long, loopy shots he'd mix in too were some of the worst.

In terms of sheer velocity, it has to be Nigel Benn. Benn had so much natural power that he could even knock you out on the way down from being knocked out himself!-(ie Logan fight)
He had granite-chinned great Barkley out on his feet with the first punch he threw for crying out loud.

Herbie Hide had a fair old dig on him. Especially seeing as he was more of a cruiser.

jimmy wilde a legend and a real world class fighter and puncher not many if any hit harder pound for pound than the ghost with a hammer in his hand yes that was the nickname the great nat fleicher used to label him with
fair call with naz hit as hard as anyone we have ever had at world level chris pyatt and lloyd honeyghan could both hit sibbo cracked a mighty left hook as well

Yes Naz is one of the heaviest punchers of all time. He could have been a great well rounded fighter too, if he hadn't believed his power was all he needed. Barrera was very wary of the power all fight.

I know Manny Steward says a lot of daft things but he claimed Naz was the hardest p4p puncher he has taken on the pads.

100 out of 134 of Jimmy Wilde's wins were by KO, he must have been a murderous puncher by any standards

Why is Wayne Alexander frequently labelled as one of the UK's best punchers? I'm unfamiliar with his career, so I can't comment on whether he is deserving of such praise, but a brief look at his record (which is an admittedly flawed approach to assessing punching power) doesn't suggest that he is.

Perhaps someone else could explain why he's deserving (or not) of being mentioned in this thread.

Absolutely sickening power from alexander. I do however have to agree that naz had the greatest power punch although not for sheer power I think the way he threw his punches was the main reason he hit so hard very awkward and from surprising angles made his shots almost impossible to see therefore his opponents were not tensed ready to take the shot.

Naz and Alexander were the hardest hitters I saw and woodys nailed it- the power was compounded by the surprising nature of the punches. Look at their ko's

I'm going to give up on plugging these pesky old black & white fighters like Jimmy Wilde and suggest you all go and look at some Pat Barrett highlight reels.

Men went down like they were DEAD versus Pat.

Naz is the best British puncher of my lifetime. Frank Bruno could obviously dig but I wouldn't put him in this category, I think I'm right in saying that bar Coetzee he didn't floor any top world level fighters, let alone stop them (and I'm not trying to knock Big Frank here).

Well then how many top world level fighters did Naz floor?

Similarly, how many men did floor Witherspoon, Tyson, Lewis or McCall? Virtually nobody!
