Well this is about his all time ranking as a fighter on this board.

I always see people here say he's over rated or they don't think too highly of him but whenever a hypothetical match up comes up with him vs anyone at 140 or less, they have him destroying his opponent. I was just curious to see how high is he on top 10 lists (or if he's there at all) at 130-140.

140 - 6...I think. I believe prime Chavez, Meldrick Taylor, Armstrong, Whitaker and Benitez beat him definitely. Its early where I'm at so I'll probably think of a few more later.

The one thing that I always say about Oscar DeLa Hoya is that he had balls!

He would've fought anyone, anywhere. And although he didn't win all of his fights against the greats of his time, he should be commended for taking them on.

At 130 and 135, De La Hoya was reminiscent of the young Michael Moorer, in the sense that he was a powerful, violent young gun, whose power was made more pronounced by soft opposition and being too big for his division. He was exciting, damaging and capable, but fought nobody and didnt stick around long enough to substantiate himself. All very much like the young Moorer.

140 was different. He had now matured, entering the beginning of his pomp. This was the last time De La Hoya could exhibit big-time speed AND power in unison. 140 is, or at a minimum couldve been, his prime. Kostya Tszyu was shortly to embark on a long reign as champion here, and few would pick him over De La Hoya. Tszyu eliminated, De La Hoya had real potential for a long, distinguished run as a Hagler or Lopez type, ruling a sole division instead of hopping about.

I dont know where Id place De La Hoya in history at 140 --- he has no real body of work --- but I know he wouldve given even the great ones a mighty tussle at that weight. It was De La Hoya at his most potent blend of experience, power, speed, and killer instinct.

At 130: Not top 10 material
At 135: Not top 10 material
At 140: Not top 10 material.

Very overrated.

I have him in my top-100 all-time P4P boxers...and as I say that, I note birds curiously dropping from the sky.

I don't think Oscar makes the top 150.

Definately, I see AT LEAST 100 fighters better than Oscar De La Hoya.

@140-All Those mentioned ^^^^^^^as well as Pryor,Locche,Mayweather,Pacqiou,and Mosely at that weight as well.

Wondering where you rate em at 130 though. I tend to feel he'd make the top 10 at 130 and even close to top 10 at 135,something like 13 or so at 135 imo.

Indeed, so many great fighters in the 135 division. If Oscar was allowed his own choice of ring attire he may well have given some greats a rough ride though.

De La Hoya does not make the top 10 nor 20 in my view of the great lightweights. How could that be guys?

No he doesnt, but lets be fair, he wasnt there for more than a blink of an eye.
