Hi Guys.

This maybe a silly question or maybe not??
When doing pad work or sparring etc I see many boxers almost hisss as they throw punches??
Does this help with breathing in any way stop you from getting gassed?
I have been doing pad work and am open to any advice i can get.

Cheers
Dave

It seems there's a lot of fighters with great stamina who don't hiss when they're throwing punches, so it probably doesn't make any difference.

Relaxing while not throwing punches is a great way to keep from getting gassed. Provided your conditioning is good. Tensed muscles use up a lot of oxygen.

You can train yourself to step back, take a deep breath, exhale hard, and drop the shoulders. Practice on the bag, then during sparring. Watch Vitali do it on a regular basis during his fights.

exhaling when you throw the shot puts more power into it and also tenses the stomach muscles to protect u in case you get 1 in return,
