In addition to being a very near great fighter Edwin Rosario also had a serious drug problem...Herion I think ...
He died at his parents home in Puerto Rico in 1997..I'm not sure if it was from an overdose or weather it was some other health complication resulting from heroin abuse....either way a very sad tale..
at the time of his death he was still an active fighter I belive he won his last fight only a short time before ..

He officially died of lung congestion, brought on, as Zurdo and Silkov so rightly state, by drug addiction. It was a very sad tale. He never really got over his wife divorcing him and taking the two kids. When she met another man and he moved in with her, it made him worse. He couldn't stand the thought of the kids living with a stranger.
He died in his sleep at his parent's home in San Juan.
His fight with Jose Luis Ramirez in 1984 is one of the most brutal lightweight fights in history.

Great fighter in his day, and it seemed a bit of a mystery why he died so young. There had been drug problems, but he was thought to be recovering at the time. I'm not sure the doctor came up with a definite cause of death.Maybe his family wanted it kept private.
It was strange to see his mid 80's cross-roads fight with Frankie Randall held at York Hall, Bethnal Green of all places...can't remember what the reason for that was.
He was only just making a name for himself at the time, but a young J.C Chavez was going to play a major part in both boxer's careers.

It was held at York Hall at lunchtime to tie-in with American-TV, who were big into boxing at the time. Buster Drayton against James Shuler was another lunchtime York Hall show.
