Constructing a case for Chisora

Ok, so Vitali is the favourite and rightly so, but many people think Chisora is a live underdog and there are a couple of people who aren't scared of being made to look like idiots, who are picking Dereck to win. I think he's got a great chance if he turns up in shape, and the indications are that he'll be at his slimmest ever for this one.
So, I'm betting on a Chisora win because:
Vitali's dominance is a potential weakness. Eh? Well, the way I see it, he's had so many cakewalks and pushovers that he's forgotten what a real fight feels like. If Dereck can test him, Vitali may have to search within himself, only to find the well of fighting spirit he needs is empty.
A fit Chisora is relentless. The last thing a forty something giant with a history of injuries needs is someone who won't let him rest. Vitali is used to controlling the pace. He won't be comfortable with Chisora constantly chasing him down, forcing him to throw punches.
Chisora's crafty defence and punch resistance mean he'll be able to spend more time in range than Vitali's previous opponents, giving him the opportunity to land his own shots. And because Chisora will be right there on top of him, Vitali's normal trick of leaning back out of harm's way will be less effective.
Vitali's sparring is unlikely to prepare him for Chisora's key punch in this fight - the RIGHT hook round the side of the guard. Chisora has had great success with this shot against Sexton and Helenius and I expect him to score repeatedly with it against Vitali. The Ukrainian won't be used to getting cuffed with shots like this and will become confused and disoriented.
Thanks to the Helenius experience, fighting a giant on his home turf won't faze Chisora or his camp. Dereck is relishing the chance to upset the odds in front of Vitali's fans.
Mind games. Chisora's assessment of Vitali as a playground bully isn't too far off the mark. Vitali knows Chisora isn't scared of him. The comments about "swinging both ways" surprised Klitschko - in fact the whole head to head was full of surprises for an intelligent man who'd thought he'd heard it all before. Klitschko isn't quite sure what to expect from Chisora, and that chink of uncertainty can carry through into the ring.
Prediction: Chisora KO 9

Nobby,
I love your enthusiasm and optimistic nature where this post is concerned, but sadly i cannot agree with it. Chisora is a fairly small heavyweight who doesn't carry much power at all. Vitali maybe getting on in years and yes it's true, he has faced some terrible opposition of late that haven't tested him in the slightest, but even at 40 years of age, he will be too much for Chisora. Vitali is a much bigger guy than anyone Chisora has faced and far tougher than the jelly belly Helenius who's record is rather padded to say the least. Vitali still has guille, is technically good and carries huge concusive power. Chisora will wade into Vitali for the opening two or three rounds and Vitali will be working out what faces him. After Vitali realises that Chisora hasn't got the punch power to test him, it will be a slow dismatling process that will end around the 5th or 6th round, perhaps slightly longer if Vitali is feeling inclined to be charitable.

I too can make a case for Chisora winning, although I do concede that Vitali is the favourite. Lets face it, Vitali has not been in many wars recently, and on the occasion an opponent has started to land on him, he tends to mark up quickly (feather fisted K Johnston) I just think that if Chisora can get inside and start landing he can unsettle Vitali and if Vitali does start marking up early it will only encourage Del Boy on some more. Of course Del Boys chin will be tested but I give him a 60-40 against chance.

I think you said it in that last sentence..............
It's about what Vitali gives to Chisora and they way that Chisora will react to that, more than whether Chisora can get inside and get off some shots. A lot of people think the same way about Klitschko, but looking at how to beat him from observing his opponents and actually being in the ring with him and trying to implement it are two very different things. Chisora is too small and doesn't carry any power. I would expect you to see a similar fight to that against Danny Williams, but ending much earlier.

I'm not sure what has happend but something amazing happened between the last bell of the helenius fight and the fight decision.
Duke and John throughout the fight were talking how it was anyones fight.... Duke I think scored the fight to Helenius.
Then the decision was announced a close split decision to Helenius.... cut to Bunce, Lillis et al after.... and its all this Derek won by 6, Derek won by 4 etc.
I did think Derek won the fight, close but he won.... but there were many rounds there in which he looked gassed - took off etc.

Our dreadful commentators are famous for this nonsense. They think it adds to drama to claim it's "going down to the wire" and "all level going into the last round". Then the studio screams blue murder when the guy who obviously won it gets jobbed.

You're right - I am being somewhat optimistic and you have made a fine case for Vitali. Chisora will have to be quite a bit better than he was against Helenius to pull this one off. One thing I would disagree with though is the idea that Chisora is small. He is not particularly tall, but he is a huge, broad, genuine heavyweight.

Chisora won handily

Like he was against Fury! The bookies have Vitali 1/10 on there is no chance Chisora going to win if he had a punch maybe. The bigger crime is no casula fan even knows its on!

Chisora is not a huge puncher it's true. But neither is he the powder puff puncher many are making him out to be. Vitali has a good chin but he hasn't been hit with any regularity for many years. I can see him losing his composure and getting tired if Dereck finds a way to get to him, which I am betting he can.

I doubt he'll win a round before being taken out before the 8th.

It going to be painful. Thankfully, not many are going to see it as it will be a bad advert for boxing. Back in the day, a Brit challenging for The Heavyweight Championship was FRONT page news. Now, Kid Galahad in Rotherham will probably have around 200x the viewers!

Unfortunately for everyone, the only way Del boy wins this is if Vitali starts to look his age

On the face of it, you can't give Del Boy much of a chance at all. But he's got to go in there with hope, because Vitali can't go on for ever, and there's always the chance that he could win on cuts or something.
Chisora should watch Vitali in the Solis "fight" - he plods after the Cuban, lands nothing, and gets caught a few times with decent shots. Solis backs off, makes Klit miss most of his shots, then jumps in and catches a slowing down Vitali a few times, because with his hands down style, his reflexes are going to start leaving him a bit more vunerable.
Del Boy should follow the Solis plan, but obviously avoid collapsing in agony on a twisted knee after 3 minutes.

Actually you raise a valid point. Solis was definatly outboxing Vitali for 3 minutes the fight lasted and Del Boy has good speed and movement for a heavy. But, outboxing Vitali for 36 minutes is going to take some doing.
Vitali has an iron chin, so if Del is going to win it will have to be on points and i'm not convinced he can withstand Vitali's shots for that time. I do think Del is going to do better than a lot of people are predicting, but stopped in 9-10 rounds, probably through exhaustion as much as anything else.

I can't see any other result than Vitali dishing out an absolute pasting.I think he will stop him somewhere between rounds 5-8, although it could be earlier.I think this one could be painful to watch. I hope I am wrong and that it's competitive, but I just can't see how. Vitali is too accurate, too fast and very good at taking control of the ring.

I see this fight going the same way as the Herbie Hide v Riddick Bowe contest. Multiple knockdowns and very one sided.
There'll be plenty of enthusiasm from Chisora but ultimately he'll take a good shellacking.

For two and a half rounds Hide v Bowe was certaintly one sided. Hide absolutely boxed the ears off Bowe. Then Bowe found his range with the jab, and Hide completely unravelled after an innocuous looking punch that he claimed caught him in the eye. Hide always had a dodgy chin while I think Chisora has proved his is made of something tougher. Most would agree that Helenius is a thunderous puncher and he caught Chisora flush several times. Obviously if Chisora takes too many from Vitali, he'll fall apart, but I don't see him folding suddenly and early the way Hide did against Bowe.

Chisora might have a couple of decent rounds if he makes a fast start, rounds 1 and 2, which he will still lose on the scorecards. He'll then take a beating until he's stopped when Vitali thinks he has put on a good enough performance for his fans.
Would Chisora even have a chance against Price?
Still looking forward to the fight though.

This.
I also doubt if Chisora will even win a single round. Totaly outclassed in every department.
I cant even give an argument on how chisora could possibly win its that one sided.

I'm sure Vitali hits harder but Helenius hits very hard and cleanly, no?

The big test for Chisora is the first 2 rounds when Vitali establishes range with his jab and catches Del Boy with his first overhand right. Will Chisora go into his shell like so many before him and be too gun-shy to threaten Vitali or will he stick to the gameplan closing distance by bobbing and weaving his way inside.
If he does the latter and tries to force a face pace and not allow Klitschko to dictate, it could be an interesting fight.
It can be argued that Vitali hasn't lost a round since coming out of retirement 4 years ago but surely he hasn't many fights left and at 40 is susceptible to injury.
But I just don't see Chisora being elusive enough to work his way inside round after round without being pot-shotted by Klitschko. He looked like a very poor mans Joe Frazier against Helenius and no matter how much power Robert had he was just far too crude and limited to catch Chisora. Vitali is levels above Helenius and I see him dominating Chisora on points with a knockdown or 2 thrown in.
