We all know that boxing has different style, regardless of weight classes who would you say are the five greatest msters of each style.

Boxer/out-fighter:
A classic "boxer" or stylist (also known as an "out-fighter") seeks to maintain distance between himself and his opponent, fighting with faster, longer range punches, most notably the jab, and gradually wearing his opponent down.

Boxer-puncher:
A boxer-puncher is a well-rounded boxer who is able to fight at close range with a combination of technique and power, they tend to wear their opponents down using combinations and then move in to score the knockout.

Brawler/slugger:
A brawler is a fighter who generally lacks finesse and footwork in the ring, but makes up for it through sheer punching power.

Swarmers/in-fighter:
In-fighters/swarmers (sometimes called "pressure fighters") attempt to stay close to an opponent, throwing intense flurries and combinations of hooks and uppercuts

Counter puncher:
Counter punchers are slippery, defensive style fighters who often rely on their opponent's mistakes in order to gain the advantage whether it be on the score cards or more preferably a knockout.

Brawler/Slugger: Rocky Marciano
For pressure fighter it is a tossup between Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez Snr
Counter punchers you are probably looking at Pernell Whittaker and Floyd Mayweather.

Maybe some of you guys should stay with mentioning fighters youve seen.

Good thread and a good idea by Irene… I’ll keep my picks to fighters from my lifetime.

1) I want to say Whittaker, but he was much more than this…then most fighters don’t fit neatly into one slot.

More than one on this thread are getting the slugger and swarmer categories mixed up, to my way of thinking.

Foreman = slugger.
Marciano = swarmer

Whitaker spent more time on the inside digging to the body than he did as an 'outside fighter'.

Sure. Doesn't really fit into that particular definition, though, does he? Then again the definitions are a bit of a problem in general. It's hard to lump fighters into them because most of the great ones had more to their style. Guys like Whitaker and Holyfield could be members of several of those groups. I'd be more comfortable labeling Holyfield as a boxer-puncher myself.

Actually guys I meant name 5 fighters for each boxing style. (25 in all)

Whitaker was equally adept at doing both. When pressured Whitaker was murder on the inside. But Whitaker spent most of his time circling the ring wide-eyed in that flat footed style of his, making people miss, flicking his jab and throwing that awesome straight left hand of his to the head and body.

Crease Hearns is more a boxer/puncher than Brawler/slugger. Hearns was outboxing a prime Leonard. I don't see how you see Hearns a Brawler/slugger. Can you elaborate on that?
