Just a little.

Next allegedly bill topper?

Definitly fits the bill for a Frank W show. In his latest fight he only got an sd over a debutant! Get on the phone to him Frank. And he's probably cheap too.

hes fought a few guys 2 or 3 times

must be lack of opponents over there

Superb.

He beat Wanner Gonzalez three times. That was Gonzalez' debut, his second fight, and his third fight. Fernandez meanwhile was on fight numbers 26, 28 and 29.

Must be very short on opponents!

It can't just be that, surely? I mean, he's a Latin American who fights at Super-feather, not exactly the problem you'd have with, say, a Japanese heavyweight or summink.

He just seems like one of those "special case" Latinos. Didn't Dario Azuaga get to about 66-0 or something stupid, then they let him off the leash (as it were) & he stayed about ten years past his "prime" getting beat on by just about every fringe contender, gatekeeper & world title also-ran you could name from super-fly to superbantam. Big fish in small ponds, as it were, quite happy to keep padding just in case someone famous needs a knockover job with a pretty record for a world title fight.

Ah well, if it keeps 'em happy...

PS: There's an Argie light-welter (I think) who's in his thirties & is about 40-0, with something ridiculous like one knockout. Is he Niccolino Locche reborn? Or is he another Azuaga? & does anyone care?

You're thinking of Cuenca, he has 1 KO. I've seen him once and he's "alright" but his record is completely padded. Amazing that him, Maidana and Matthyse are all at 140, from the same country...and yet none of them met...and 2 of them are monster punchers whilst the other one makes Paulie look like he has dynamite hands.

This guy made me smile a few days ago , 42-0 and ranked no4 in argentina at light welter .

Is he the most feather fisted fighter or what , just 1 ko in those 42 wins , now THAT is an ideal opponent for someone , especially looking at his record .

Yeah. But in amongst that, Pongsaklek's fought some absolute killers. Sosa has beaten Viloria, another champ in the same division, Miranda had a world title for a bit after PW beat him, Sor Rungvisai's now the champ in the division above. PW has, basically, cleaned out the effing division. He's like boxers used to be, in that he stays busy by fighting chumps instead of taking six months off between proper fights. I can forgive someone like him or Julio Cesar Chavez (senior) fighting chumps every other month when they both destroy proper fighters amongst it.

This Peruvian kiddie has never fought anyone even remotely decent, ever.

Yep agree with all you wrote :TU: I know a lot about Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, was just pointing where someone had wrote Tony Fernandez 33 fights and fighting a Debut .... Ok Tony Fernandez isn't the best fighter where as Pongsaklek Wonjongkam is class and on his 86th fight he fights a 0-1-0, how did that even get sanctioned? It must'nt be a problem over there where as in the UK there would laugh and take back your Promotion-Mangers licence asking for a fight like that :OhYes:

He's the bloke Datsue was talking about :-)
42-0-0-2 (unbeaten in 44!)

Wonjongkam has faced such a number of champions and top contenders that I give him a pass:
Guys Wonjongkam fought who have at some point held a "world title":
Tuncao
Lazarte^
Naito
Keb Baas^
Shimizu*
Miranda^
Kameda*
Suriyan*
Sosa

*indicates current champion
^indicates held a title at some point in 2011

Thats 3 current champions and 3 who held a title at some point last year!

S'a good point mate, sorry I misunderstood where you were coming from originally.

Somebody (I think his username's eul) over on the Current Scene recently was talking about the way Argentinean boxing's run, the corruption & gangsterism & stuff, & it really makes you think, because if he's to be believed, even fighters on the level of a Maidana or Mathysse fight wearing what are essentially gang colours, organised crime syndicate type stuff. I'll try to dig out the thread, because it kinda relates to what you were saying about promoter's/manager's licenses; it seems that over in places like that it's big bundles of cash & flash the iron if anyone gives you any shit.

It makes you wonder about death/injury rates for places like that. I'd not want to rely on the medical arrangements made by this little lot, for example:

http://www.youtube.com/embed/GlprxungB4c

Shit is fvcking unbelievable.

EDIT: Here's the guy's post I was talking about above.
eul wrote:Im Argentinean and ill try to explain what happened. Lazarte (who works cleaning streets at night) is supported by a very very powerful sindicate here. And they work like this, being thugs. There were A LOT of this guys in the fight last night, they use a green shirt. And their mentality is like what you have witnessed, violent.

It´s really a shame because an organized crime union, makes all argentinean look bad. I admit argentinean people is like somebody told before "volatile" but mostly in football games. Normal people respect boxers a lot, but some organizations have been involved in the sport lately and its a shame.

Another organization involved is ATILRA (another sindicate), you can see them dressed in yellow. A lot of boxers are supported by ATILRA, but there has never been problems, though they bring their guys to fights too. For example, Maidana was supported by atilra before golden boy. You can see him dressed in their colours in the kotelnik fight, corley fight, and some other fights.

Hugo Garay works with them too (he actually works in the sindicate), and most of his fights wears their clothes.

Matthysse too... and plenty of others.

Boxing has little to none support from the government here, so, boxers go to this sindicates looking for help.

So, its a shame, but it is like it is. Police didnt do anything cause, if they get involved, they get sanctioned!!! Its incredible, but true.

Anyway, what i tried to explain is that normal argentinean people like me, are not like that, but we get constantly bashed because of this organizations with criminal behaviour. Its a shame and i feel sorry for Casimero who did a great fight. Lazarte should never fight again because he encourages the crowd to act like this, he should be banned for life.

My good friend Tony Fernandez basically retired a few years ago, he owns a gym and makes a decent living for himself

He just goes back in the ring as a favor to the promoter for whom it is difficult to find pro boxers to fill up his cards. In the process he makes a few extra dollars.

He's a great guy, family man, hard working. Could have been a lot better for him, but that's just the way it is for most boxers around here.
