Hello everyone. this friday I am meant to have a operation on my right knee, the patella, to remove damaged tissue just below me knee cap. Now as you would expect, I am worried about a few things, the recovery time for the knee to heal. Will the knee be the same as before. And what are the chances, the surgery might leave infections. At the moment I call walk for a good distances before the knee plays up. It dose bother me sometimes, when the knee aches, because I know its not getting any better after resting it. At the moment I can't run or do any exercise on my feet. I would like to know, if any of you had this surgery and was it successful and how long did it take before you was doing normal things like exercise. Any information from you will be very helpful, well I hope it will LOL. The question is, do I go for the operation and hope it will make a full recovery or leave it and forget about me marathon running again. Help help lol

not really helpful,, but I recently had an ACL damage and a tear to the cartledge, and had some thermal shrinkage treatment during my operation, I had it done early October, and I have just started running again properly, although I was sent to the fitness centre sometime around 6-8 weeks after to use x-trainer, rower etc, hope this helps

Operation or no operation if you continue to worry about your knee it will get worse

I dont want to worry you mate but a friend of mine had the very same operation and a couple of weeks later he developed an infection that spread to his genitals and his nob dropped off.

HAHAHAHAH GENIUS HAHAHA

had 6 knee ops, and my nob hasn't fallen off, in fact its a beaut.

oh and my knee is knackered.

one bit of advice is get a bike, and ride it. The main problem i've found after knee ops is loss of muscle on the thighs, and that weakens the knee, leading to damage again when starting training.

Cycling is non-impact, so helps get the strength in the legs and is great for getting the knee mobility back.

I've done a load of work in the gym with a fella who had an athroscopy. Initially he thought he'd never run again but I've had 5k out of him on a few occasions. We did a lot of work at the start strengthening it before we went anywhere near anything testing but now (about 2 years on) everything is fine and you wouldn't even know he'd had it.

completly agree, thats where i went wrong. I broke my kneecap playing football aged 16, was on crutches for about 6 months, the muscle had wasted away on my left leg. As a teenager i didn't listen to the advice given and wrecked my knee again trying to play football, this time i had the medial ligaments done in my knee.
Since then i've had cartlidge out of my knee, and 3 arthroscopys, and now have the added bonus of arthritis in it. I don't think i would of had half the trouble i've had if i'd listened and done the correct strengthing right from the first injury.

on the otherside, don't be afraid . I can still cycle well (70 miles) a few weeks ago. And 13 miles to and from work. And go for the occasional run , with not bad results.

X2 excellent. I had the operation 3 years back and knee was good as new in no time, even walked out of the hospital without crutches. But strenuous physio as soon and possible, and lots of it, is an absolute must, as someone mentioned. That makes a lot of difference to the eventual strength of the knee.

I was chatting to a friend om Skype recently and he accidentally left his cam and mic on after we had finished. (we weren't having a mutual wanking session, by the way, he is just one of those people who HAS to turn his cam on when chatting online)

I left it running and he went out, and later i was treated to the sound of his mum having a rather "vocal" dump, when she thought she was alone in the house .

I dont know what she had been eating, but by god, it sounded like hard work.

Oh, i must tell my Air India bathroom story when i have a moment.

Ya I went to the hospital to get more information and talk to the consoution,
before making me mind up

but Before i new it, they had me in me dressing gear and down in the operating room :P

They took away a part of the tendon on my kneecap, wich was damaged.

Now just resting and hoping it will make a full recovery, with some exercise and strength training.
