He took sometime out to reconsider his future after getting bombed out by David Price in just 73 seconds in that eliminator shot up in Liverpool and I think this fight it get rid of the ring rust and get his confidence up.

It suddenly seems a long time ago watching Martin Power, John and Peter Haymer at the old St Pancras gym. Have they rebuilt the gym yet Martin?

If John Had The Confidence of Uzzy Ahmed he'd be unstoppable, for such a Big Guy that what he lacks...

I don't know if it's even a confident thing, he just seems to leave his brain in the dressing room sometimes and go hell for leather when there's no need to.

Going by his last fight against David Price when he got bombed out in the post interview in his dressing room it looked like his confidence had gone down the toilet in that one.

John could have all the confidence and ring smarts in the world, but he would still lack meaningful physical tools.

I don't know if he's a smart guy outside the ring but at times he's looked pretty intelligent inside it with his defence. Obviously he left that in the the locker room against Price and just fought him like a street brawler. Shame because I thought he could really give Price a problem.

personally i think he had to drag price into a brawl, john was never going to outbox price over the distance so he had to get inside that long jab/reach and land on price early, unfortunately for john he got well tagged before he could get too close. c'est la vie.

His best chance was to be more patient, stay out of trouble for 3-4 rounds and then begin to close the gap and make it a bit messier as Price went into new territory, i.e. later rounds, admittedly very difficult.

Glad to see John back in the ring again so soon after the Price defeat. I hope he can get that morale boosting win he needs, he deserves a bit of luck.

but where does his career go after this after such a good displays against fury in their first fight and danny williams and bombing out larry olubamiwo he throws it away with off nights. what realistic level can big john get to?

John will always get fights as he's the perfect gatekeeper for title level, good enough to beat the pretenders, challenge with contenders and limited/weak enough to lose to true talent.
Wouldn't mind seeing Big John vs Dallas or Towers 1 bit.

Unfortunately for John he entered the ring like a fat whale and fought like a moron.

What's the problem with CJ? As you said he always seems to fight well with him in his corner.
