"a life ban would be harsh, but not inconceivable. Chisora should be banned for two to three years at the very least, in my opinion"

 A bit heavy with the ban stick aren't you.

Two/three years seems a lot. Cantona got an eight month ban for launching a kung-fu kick into the crowd.

Haye was a world class cruiserweight who moved up, went into the fight of his life (v Wladimir) with no plan B. Rather than taking it on the chin, he blamed his toe.
No plan A either..

That was a brilliant moment. The kick not the ban.

I see Chisora's ringside at Huck-Povetkin in Stuttgart. Surely he can't get another title shot after a defeat?

Would you care to expand, or was that pathetic response based purely on the fact I don't rate your top 30 lists?

Sorry Martin, not too keen but thats more on the side of "boxing bashing" from a boxing fan and journalist.

The disgraced Londoners should be banned with immediate effect. - haye cant be banned.

They proved, if it needed proving again, that Brits abroad rarely cover themselves in glory. - A really unfair comment on the likes of Hatton when he fought Mayweather and took 20,000 (was it) to Vegas with him, the US fight fans and casino goers loved the singing, the banter and with 20,000 UK boxing fans in the city there was no reported trouble. Also, how many other guys have gone abroad and done so well in the last few years - Johny Murray, Ryan Rhodes, Joe Calzaghe, both hattons - infact when was the last time a brit fighter went abroad and something like this happened.

As for the ban for 3 years (life not unconceivable) - Should Barrera have been banned for throwing fists in press conferences on two separate occasions, errol christie for the Kaylor incident, how about james Toney for threatening to shoot danny green, or Mike Tyson for numerous misdemenours, Hopkins for snapping titos national flag (never mind the executioner mask which was always bad taste really), or how about ali for brawling in the TV studio, or Lewis rahman in the TV studio.. If you gave 3 year bans for every boxer that got into a scuffle outside the ring you may aswel flush the sport down the pan.

I've really been hoping someone would back the sport. Just one person from across all of the papers and magaines would come out and put this whole scenario into perspective instead of adopting the popular modern culture of a witch hunt. It’s a fighting sport, with fighting men, often from fighting backgrounds and fighting areas.

Ah well, fornicate it, ban them all, throw some fuel on the fire of the sport being bad, and pour a nice bucket of water over what would be the most anticipated fight in british boxing for years (even if most see haye Chisora as a one sided).

And realistically if they were banned they would just get a license elsewhere

How is it "boxing bashing" to think Chisora should be banned after that debacle?

Have he and Haye done boxing any favours with their behaviour?

People keep assuming the general public think like the average boxing fan. They don't.

I haven't justified the actions of Barrera, or Tyson, or Bowe or anyone else.

Taking this as once incident, both should be punished IMO.

Sure, they can try for a licence elsewhere but who is going to line up to watch average, domestic Chisora (lost three of his last four, lost to Fury... best win v Sexton) vs anyone after last week?

I'm sure Haye v Chisora would put bums on seats but I thought BN put it well when they said it would be a shame if the only way interest in the sport could be generated is through events like these.

PS Did you describe it as a "scuffle" mate? It was more than a scuffle.

I can see your points, and sure there is a long list of misbehaving fighters, but this is the most talked about boxing story in Britain for years... for all the wrong reasons.

PPS See Pat Sheehan's article with Chisora on Sunday? Did anyone see it?

"I'm more scared of my mum than Haye etc etc"

Its boxing bashing because every article, not just yours, talks about how the sport has been disgraced blah blah blah. Why has nobody got the bollocks to step up and write along the lines of "It was an unacceptable incident but something that the sport has been littered with since the dawn of time" - write something so people think well yeah it isnt right (and Ive never said it is) but these things happen and interesting these are the people who've also done it. Im not saying you've justified the actions of the other fighters I mentioned, but its the big hardline BAN THEM, maximum sentance, yet this has never been done to others.

yeah, it is sad that soemthing like this brings interest to the sport - but could you imagine if boxing didnt have these characters , just a bunch of 'ricky hattons' telling jokes about his dads passport photo being full sized, repetedly. And your right, the general public dont think the same as the average boxing fan. the forum type boxing fan couldtn give two hoots about Haye Chisora, but after the incident the average armchair bloke would love it... absolutley love it.

Ive not written on boxrec much for ages, but the coverage of Haye Chisora has riled me quite simply as its almost as if this has never happened in the sport before.

Also "Brits abroad rarely cover themselves in glory" is really really unfair to 99.9% of british boxers who fight overseas (let alone fans). One close to my heart who I didnt mention earlier, Johnny Owen. Another great fighter who covered himself glory on that fateful night.

Just an opinion. :TU:

I'm not writing that because I don't believe in it, but obviously you're entitled to your opinion Wales.

For every Chisora and Haye there are dozens boxers working hard and showing discipline, doing things the right way. There are gyms up and down the country with trainers working for nothing, teaching kids how to behave, instilling the right values, keeping them off the streets.

Everyone (at least on Boxrec) seem so happy Haye and Chisora brought publicity to the sport with this "scuffle"

Chisora and Haye are idiots. They're embarrassing. Putting this incident to one side, Haye was dominated and made to look a fool v Wlad. Vitali beat Chisora with an injury.

I've had more people come up to me angry at this pair of cretins than eager to see them fight. And since the Haye v Wlad fight the overwhelming reaction from the man on the street has been pure respect for Wlad and Vitali, admiration for their impeccable behaviour in the face of abuse and actions like spitting and slapping.

You can be a decent guy, with talent, and fill arenas. Ask Hatton, ask Calzaghe, ask the Klitschkos, ask Lennox... the list goes on.

Chisora is a prat, he's limited and did ok vs a fading and injured Vitali having done well (ultimately in defeat) against Helenius. He may have been overweight and ill-prepared for Fury but that's his own fault.

He brings nothing to boxing.

There are far better fighters, trainers and managers doing far more for the sport we all love.

We have to ask ourselves the question - what kind of sport do we want boxing to be?

The kind of sport where this kind of event is acceptable and we just go along with it because it has happened before, or a sport where we punish such actions and eradicate them because we don't want to see it anymore. Especially at the top level and in the so-called prestige division.

really - well I dont know how many millions of brits go abroad each year but it must be fornicating carnage where you go if they "rarely" behave.

As you said your entitled to your opinion I wouldn’t argue with trainers working up and down the country doing lots of good work etc… etc...

I'll answer your question though, and Im going to answer this is a brutally and completley honest way, and not the forum, or public appeasing way.

We have to ask ourselves the question - what kind of sport do we want
boxing to be?
The kind of sport where this kind of event is acceptable
and we just go along with it because it has happened before, or a sport where we
punish such actions and eradicate them because we don't want to see it anymore.
Especially at the top level and in the so-called prestige division.

In no way whatsoever do I find this type of action acceptable, course it isnt acceptable not in a press conference or in tesco car park. Do I think its okay for me to walk down the street and start brawling with someone? No. Lots of things happen in that big bad world that arent acceptable, but, as the saying goes, shit happens, and it happens everyday. However, every now and again, once in every so many years, well, I like it. Its brought boxing to the back pages, everyone is talking about it. If it happenes before the fight in the weigh init wets the appetite for the fight, theres a buzz of anticipation, forums go mad, people who don’t watch boxing say "kinell did you see that scouse lad with cleverly in the press conference, reckon it'll be a good fight?". How many people who read your article will read it with perspective, how many knew the great Ali was brawling on TV? How great is it when James Toney or Bernard Hopkins are in full flow. You mentioend Lennox Lewis in your list of filling arenas yet didn’t mention he's brawled on the box twice. And yes, Calzaghe and Hatton (both of whom had cocaine problems but hey ho, at least they didn’t scrap) filled arenas without figthing in press conferences, but having lost 3 of his last 4 Derek Chisora is a fighter who a lot of people would pay to watch, and tune in to listen to now.

Can always remember the anticipation of Michael Gomez against Alex Arthur after the face off.

Like you say, lets switch to rugby.

Coco wrote:And realistically if they were banned they would just get a license elsewhere

True. But would then be forced to fight outside of Britain too.
Thus, diminishing their bargaining position substantially.

This may not bother Chisora too much to be honest. He is lucky to get opportunities considering he lost clearly to Fury anyways..
But It will crucify Haye who still thinks he is a major player in the heavyweight scene

Neither guy is what the division needs. The division already has too many mediocre heavies anyways. :TU:
