So after 2 years out Mark makes his return, i for one am glad to see him back in the ring, he was an exciting boxer. Having just turned 30, he can't delay in getting back to championship level. I can see maybe 2 warm up fights before stepping him back up , if he looks good there are some exciting match-ups for him at domestic level .

Do you know why he retired in the first place? I'm curious.

Sparred alot of good fighters including many champions but not many hit as hard as Mark i gotta say and we did we did plenty of rounds over thyears and he could punch

Am sure he got jailed for a drug offence.....it was an enforced retirement.......

Definitely Mark Could Be In The Mix. I Would Say He Is The Biggest Puncher At 147 Domestically. I Know Some People Wil Say Kell Brook Would Beat Him. Mark Has 1 Punch Knockout Power. Strong As An Ox. And A Granite Chin. Is Only Defeat Against Vincent Vuma He Got Hit With Every thing Bar The Kitchen Sink. Still On His Feet When The Ref Stepped In. That Was At Light Middle Weight. Vuma Weighed 12st On Fight Nite. Mark Was 11St. The Fight Could Have Gone Either Way. So I Believe Mark At Welterweight Lighter Gloves As Well. Can See Mark Being In Title Picture. Adios

not right there, it wasn't drugs as far as i know. But yes he did do time for assault, hopefully he can push back on with his career now.

Welters are looking good on the domestic front Kell Brook v Matthew Hatton leads the way, and the winner is probably looking at a world shot soon, but we have Barnes, Lynes, Purdy, Watson, vassell and Gavin all looking for a shot at British or Euro title. So add Thompson to that and we have any number of attractive fights

He punches very, very hard this guy... remember his war with Vuma?

He got thrown in pretty deep but did well. I think he stepped in when Jamie Moore pulled out with injury?

Good fighter, hope he comes back strong and has his sights set firmly on boxing and making a dent domestically in this division

Didn't he avoid a fight against Brook a couple of years back?

Good exciting boxer. Good to see him back in the ranks again.

Certain he was inside for fraud offences.

A welcome return to the British title mix. He was heading for some blistering matches before the break.

i'm sure i saw thompson and watson fight in the ams and if i did i remember it being a cracker with watson wining might be wrong though, but they all make for good fights and while the winner of hatton v brook goes on to bigger things the loser is still in the mix at brittish level.

What for getting caught with money, are you not innocent until proven guilty, surely they would need to prove you stole it or made it from illegitimate means......

Correction for YOGI BEAR regarding the weights for the Mark Thompson Vincent Vuma contest there certainly was not a stone difference on the night, firstly the Board would not have allowed that especially with someone as good as Vuma.
In fact the weights were Vuma 10st 13 and a half. Thompson 10st 12lbs This can easily be verified by taking a look at their fight records given on Boxrec

Correction Peter1948! They Where The Weights On The Official Scales The Day Before. 24 Hours Later He Was 12st And Mark 11st. Vuma Looked A Completely Different Fight Nite. Most Boxers Do Add Weight After Weigh In. Hydrating And Food In Take. With The Fight Being A W.B.C International Contest Both Boxers Weigh In The Day Before. Adios.

peter1948 - that's a little naive to think that fighters don't put weight on between weigh in and fight night.
Vuma is / was a huge Light Middle.
He was well over 12st when he came into the ring against Rhodes.

Thank you YOGI BEAR & Twenty six, firstly I am not looking to differ and have an argument or be a keyboard warrior, I just stated their weights at the weigh in which was official. As there are no scales to weigh what a boxer puts on overnight their weight on the night is purely guesswork and hearsay. I am quite aware that boxers come into the ring on the night different.

Thompson weighed 10 12 whilst eating a banana on the scales. Vuma will have put on a stone between weigh in and fight night, Mark almost nothing. I was with Mark the day after he accepted the fight, he had no weight to lose being a weight below vuma.

Plus Peter 1948 fighters often EASILY put on 14+ lbs between weigh in and fight night. Read mcullochs interview about hos fight with Scott Harrison, or even better watch the fight and see the difference
