War, Baby...is Mitchell for real?

OK...I have always enjoyed the book on a certain level, but Mitchell's analysis of the fight crowd who go to events is ridiculous.
He says that fans, subconsiously want to see serious injuries in the ring, due to some prime-evil violent urge.
Now I have been a hundreds of fights and though fans go mental for their man, i have never got the impression they are there to see a death in the ring. Think he is over-preachy to be fair.
Plus what's going on with the chapter where he is speaking to his dog....muthafucka?
