Yet another hopeless "contender", brought along in fine WBO style with a record littered with palookas and stiffs.
He's beaten around 13 or 14 fighters in their first or 2nd fights, and his first title win in a points verdict over a guy with a record of 1-11. Nathan doesn't even have to bother training for this one.

For the second fight on the trot. I wonder what price tickets will be for this.

He's not the new Joe Calzaghe for nothing! A string of poor WBO defences ensue, reminds me of Joe in the late 90's/early 00's.

There's a trend in modern journalism in general & the tiny pond of British boxing journalism in particular to not rattle any cages, but if I swear if I read one more article about a fighter who only fights hand-picked, carefully arranged setups in what are sold as genuine fights & the hack in question titles their opus something like, say, "From Wales to World Class", & in which the interviewee isn't challenged in any way at all on what is quite clearly bullshit, or even that no editorial stance is taken by the interviewer in presenting said bullshit, I think I'm going to bite someone's face off.
I can only compare & contrast fighters like Cleverly with someone like Bellew, whose honesty along the lines of "Nah mate, not a proper world title fight, more like a domestic/Euro affair" mean that I shall be voting with my wallet for said Scouser & cheering him every time he fights, whereas the obviously delusional wing of the UK boxing scene won't be getting none of my dosh & furthermore will be subject to massive denigration within the stately Datsue Manse.
The reason, of course, that I am so pissed off about this is that my personality means I am now duty-bound to root for fighters like Krasniqi & Karpency, despite their lack of any sort of a chance whatsoever & their general standard of woefulness. I mean, it's depressing.

I think having a ticket for the last night of the proms is more appealing than this.
How's Cleverly suppose to get prepared for a major step up by fighting these bums.

The bigger issue with the WBO's rankings is...WHERE the hell are Dawson, Campillo AND Sillahk! Though how is Chilemba just #13? We know the division isn't mega strong but their is some talent there...and yet these top guys aren't ranked at all?
Right let's guess how Bunce builds this up "This kid is on a 34 fight winning streak! He's not been beaten since his 3rd bout back in 2006 and NEVER been stopped, not once in 39 bouts! This kid is ranked #4 in...THE...WORLD! How can you criticise this match? Nathan is fighting a top 5 Light Heavyweight! He's fighting the European Champion! This is what allegedly is here for, bringing you, the fans, title defences against top 5 contenders!"

He's Luan Krasniqi's nephew.

I'd begin the process of worrying about how I've ever heard of his uncle, but I am busy. umm, opponent for someone like Michael Sprott or Skelton at some point?

MachoMan09 wrote:Warren & his team have always understood the concept of levels. I remember everyone slagging them off for matching Ricky softly, to the extent Ricky, after coining in it, left. What happened? He stepped up, lost a couple of times and retired. Had Warren moved him along faster, he'd have got found out faster, earned less money, etc, etc... Cleverley is not good enough to fight and beat top level opposition. His team know it; he probably knows it; we all know it. So why complain about the opponent - other than to reiterate that the whole notion of being a world champion boxer has to very much be gauged on a case by case basis; again, this is something we all already know. The path they are taking with Cleverley is wise.
Yeah, we all know all that, too, but to let a nanosecond pass without
mentioning the massive act of cognitive dissonance that you have to perform just to follow modern boxing would be a bit dull, wouldn't it? Besides, the pudenda that have got us here would then have won. I mean, they've won already; we give them our money. Even though it's a conditional act (i.e. "I'm paying 'cos I respect the fighter" or like his shorts or whatever), you're still channeling funds into the hands & pockets of those who anybody with even a hint of a moral compass would decry.
It's oddly like dealing with the mentally ill, following boxing. Someone says "A", you have to edit in "B". & we all just accept it, 'cos that's the way it is.
It's not any wonder you can barely get new fans to follow professional boxing, really, is it, when you have to get into such a schizophrenic mindset to even talk about it (as a "sport", i.e. a regulated & competitive level playing field where individuals compete to endeavour to show who is the best at a particular activity) properly. But we all excuse it, because that's the "reality" of the business.
