Also on a lesser note, there couldnt be any more than 500 people in that venue, how can that promoter be affording the purse bids on that? French TV must pay big.

I think 500 is a generous estimate, looks more like 250 to me.
Boxing seems to be really down in France these days, despite there being almost 400 pros in the country and shows being staged 4-5 times a week.
Every fight I have seen from France recently has been poorly attended - empty seats everywhere.

The TV production has also been piss poor, look at Kiko Martinez' fight last week - awful!
I think Sky Sports have had a hand in the production of this one.

This fight should have been staged in Wales somewhere.
Could probably sell 5000 tickets with a decent undercard.
It's the European Championship for goodness sake!

No I'm with you, his opponent was Average and in imo he didn't look that great............ Was thinking if he was in with the likes of Michell Bruns etc they would of taken him to school...

No I'm with you, his opponent was Average and in imo he didn't look that great............ Was thinking if he was in with the likes of Michell Bruns etc they would of taken him to school...

I think Mitchell very over rated fighter.

They would have indeed. Rees-John Murray would be a good next defence.

I thought he did very well. Went away from home, was waiting an eternity for the fight to start but kept his head and produced a totally dominating performance. How he will fare against future opponents may be a different matter but I judged this one as a brilliant showing from Rees. I don't think he gets the credit he's due, hes a lovely fighter to watch, gives it everything, has good skills and a big heart. I wouldn't rule him out against anyone British, not saying he'd win, but he has a good chance against any of them.

Good post, he is an underated fighter, he has flaws which we all know but he is a good European champion and in world class he would give most a fight for many rounds and would
have a good chance against certain fighters.

Thanks for those of you that left positive messages guys, Gavin trained like a demon and made the weight comfortably for this fight. He knew that he had to have a commanding performance over there and did just that - he was wild at times but the opponent was very awkward, tough, cagey and experienced. The odds were stacked against us as the weigh-in was in the Mezaache family gym, the venue was literally jam-packed with home supporters and we were being taxied around my the Mezaache family in what was a quite weird set of circumstances! To top it all though there was the most intense heat in the ring and the promoters 'lost' Gav's ring-walk tune!

Jeez, he deserves a pat on the back at least - after all, people keep knocking him but he keeps winning!!!
