Very sad news.

A highly entertaining soul, and one who truly loved boxing.

May he RIP, and for some reason, I have no trouble imagining that he will do just that.

He was nothing if not comfortable in his own skin, I imagine we take that with us when skin is no longer the fashion.

I'm part of a family fighting the good fight against lung cancer, and I mourn his passing, as my crankiness against the tobacco companies grows ever greater.

The cig execs knew, they lied, they ran, they hid. They represent the worst cowards in humanity.

We all now make the decision to smoke well armed with the facts of the matter. So this generation owns it. But those weasels put off telling the truth costing so many lives.

It's still costing us now.

For you younger people, Youtube the old cigarette ads. Once upon a time they even payed Dr's to testify as to the "health benefits" of Tobacco.

For me I will make a contribution to the Cancer fund in Sugar's name.

I once even saw a Flintstones cig ad, really disturbing stuff.

I said it in CS but I'll say it again, RIP Bert, one of the most passionate people amidst the sport.

Sugar was a once in a generation type of personality, but more of a media historian / celebrity than true research historian. No one can replace him on television or in documentaries.

The best of the over 60 gang today on television are Larry Merchant, who is less of a historian than Sugar was, and Al Bernstien.

I liked Bert Sugar. Was he really 74? He looked I swear, older than that.

Can't say I was a fan of his. I did not dislike him in anyway, just wasn't into his style of journalisim (rose tinted and exaggerations). He was a character and Boxing wil miss him.

I thought he was a funny old guy. People that don't know better thought he was a much bigger expert than he was. This bothers some people who are serious history buffs of the sport. However, he was one of the great characters of the sport.
