Foreman by a cunt hair.

Joe Frazier.

He prevailed on the biggest stage in boxing history, against a truly great fighter at a time when both men were nearest their peaks and fully aware that this was THE moment.

There are several guys that you could go with; however I lean towards Foreman. He crushed Frazier and Norton. He did beat Lyle, though he almost lost. After that, there is a dropoff, though he beat some decent guys. The loss to Young is the biggest negative.

However, everyone else had negatives as well.

On account of his success in two different eras, twenty years apart, it has to be George Foreman, although, curiously, I think Larry Holmes would have beaten him.

I have it Louis, Ali, Foreman, Frazier.

I'd go Johnson then Holmes, followed by Dempsey and Frazier.

I think Foreman is getting really overrated. A great fighter with a great achievement of regaining the title but he seems to have a lot of shortcomings.

This is a common view of the man and, while not inaccurate, its a misleading picture --- the reality being there is very little all but a handful of great HW's couldve done to negate his strengths --- because Foreman's strengths, collectively, were extraordinarily effective.

Everyone complains about Foreman's technique, but very, very few men were ever able to adeptly combat the big man.

You’ve got to be special to beat him. But we’re talking about special fighters on this list.

It’s not just about H2H I know. But I can see a lot of the greats beating him.

For me 3rd or best of the rest just seems too much.

Foreman gets my vote as well. H2H i have him at #2.

Just on the, "great comment," line, how many of us rate Douglas over Tyson?

The loss to Young has to be a factor against Foreman but you have to look at everyone's whole career. Foreman's win over Frazier was probably more impressive than anything that almost anyone else ever did. The blowout of Norton is underrated as well.

You also have to factor in his comeback & the fact that he was competitive in a 'silver' age of the HW division, when he was very old, plus he managed to regain his title.

Taking the whole of Foreman's career into account, I believe it is hard to look past him.

by no way am i trying to say that young was better than foreman historically

i just think that you need to throw that fight into the over all view of foremans greatness.

foreman is in my top 5 but not number 3
