Johnny Bratton vs Gil Turner at 147 lbs

Two of my favorite fighters to watch from the early days of televised fights.
Although these two fought most of the top welters and middleweights of the late 40s/early 50s, they surprisingly just missed each other and never fought. So, prime for prime, who wins? Does Turner's relentless pressure and combination punching give him the nod? Or does Bratton's crafty Robinson-esque slickness and boxing ability? Whomever won, it would be one HELL of a battle.

...yeah...two of my favorites too.........if he's on his game the erratic bratton i think takes it. a great boxer and an underrated puncher...he had real kayo power when he opened up or not weartoing handcuffs.....whichever explanation holds true....his big problem was his soft bones...calcium deficiency from childhood....and he broke his fists if he used all of his power against a strong chin...like gavilans. impacted wisdom teeth and bone problem there too caused him to get a broken jaw in three different fights. turner when he was at his prime was a constant charger and had a good chin. threw punches in bunches comiing forward always.

a match that could have been a great one..alas...nevert ook place so we shall never know.

I pick Gil Turner to win this fight. He was much stronger and faster I believe. Too bad he did never became world champion in one of boxing's toughest eras. His fight with the great Kid Gavilan 60 years ago for Gavilan's world welter title was a true classic. He gave the Kid all he could handle. After that brutal loss to Gavilan, it looked that he was never the same.
