Does anyone still use this format? I've got hundreds of recordings of British and international fights from the late 80s up to about 2003. I rarely watch them these days so I'm thinking of moving them on. Anyone interested?

Yes mate - how much? Domestic stuff from 90's and early 2000's i'm after.

It terrifies me when people say 'I've got hundreds of VHS tapes' - they're hugely flammable in volume.

The amount of attics that go up in smoke, because people have spot lights in their bedroom ceiling which slowly cook boxes of tapes or whatever that have been stacked above is more than you think.

I'd not thought of that. I've got some tapes in storage in the atic and last time I wentu it was mad hot. I'd not thought they were combustable.

I've heard they're a potential fire hazard.
Got approx 500 boxing tapes in my house, but they're all kept in a small storage room with no window or light.
I reckon they're safe enough that way.

Some years ago I bought a DVD-recorder with the intent of copying all my VHS tapes them all over to DVD.
Was just about to start the first one when it suddenly dawned on me that there is approx 1800 hours of footage.
Even if I did 8 hours of work every day it would still take about seven months to complete the job.
Realistically, it would take several years.
So the tapes are still there, and the DVD recorder is still as good as new.

ive over 2500 fights on VHS in the attic from back to mid 80's to late 90's.

I'm the same hundreds of tapes all in the attic along with 20 mores years worth of boxing news, boxing monthly, boxing digest etc. Need to have a sort out and get rid I think

Call me sad, but I've said before I think a syndicate (although got to be a certain element of trust) of us should get together and get a big collection transfered onto DVD. Yes, way too much storage space and time for one man..... but say if 25 of us did 20 tapes each, it would be attainable.... once they are on DVD, the transfer process would be quick. Those involved in the syndicate would get copies of each others DVD's.

Is there any quick way of dubbing from VHS onto DVD, or is it still a process of record one the DVD recorder and play on the VCR?

I would imagine there are some fights in these collections that are rare, it would be a shame to see them go (up in flames).
