I really like both of these fighters.

Kevin via range and workrate, especially late on. I think he could keep moving and have Gavin chasing him.

Yep they are both really good to watch. Interesting. Warren was talking about making the Mitchell-Burns fight on Bunce's show last night.

Really tough call, I wonder if Mitchell hits too hard for Rees? Gavin is no fool mind, a lovely boxer full of energy. This is every bit as good (from the point of view of the spectator) as either of them fighting Burns.

Late stoppage for Mitchell.

Rees holds his own at the start and surprises Mitchell with his speed, looking very comfortable at times. But he will start to slow down and tire after 5/6 at which stage Mitchell takes over and finishes a knackered, battered Rees in about 10. Everyone comments on what a good fight it was

kevins a bit of a bully, reckon he might get a bit of a shock with gavin. hes one of the gamest fighters i can think of.

So many people overate mitchell.

Don't think Mitchell will have the power to hurt Rees seeing that Rees has been in with world class light welters. At lightweight Rees is very good. I see him either stopping Mitchell late or comfprtable UD.

Rees all day long. I like Kev's op-ed pieces but I think a professional fighter -- though a lightweight like Gav would be giving away a lot of weight -- would wear him down & take him out. But then again Mitchell's really good at convoluted metaphors & you never know, the Welshman might get lost in amongst one & end up befuddled.

But yeah. The Guardian'll need a new boxing hack after this one...

I think Rees could get to mitchell like katsidis did. Gav carries some decent power at lightweight. Mitchell can be hurt too.


I like both guys. It's potential fight of the year.

I have to agree on both accounts. Kevin is a good fighter, no doubt about that but I think some British fans, not all, rate him way higher than is necessarily true. Put that down to any of the following, good match making, popular East End fan base or because he is British.

Gavin is a tough cookie. Tough fight to call. I need to think on this, if it comes off. One thing though, I would not fancy either of them against Burns at the mo.

Actually, Kev 'The Hack-saw' Mitchell is even smaller than Rees. True story. However, on condition that I take over his Guardian role - including the tennis - I really hope the BBBoC sanction it.

Would be a great fight if it was to come off, I would lean towards Mitchell with a close points win

Kevin "The Pen" Mitchell is ranked #14 by the WBO at 135lbds on the basis of this thread.

Defo potential for a very good fight. You could argue both are on the fringes of world class. Like someone commented earlier i think Burns beats them both.

On the contrary, I'd strongly fancy Rees to beat Burns...

Anyone who underestimates a motivated Rees is a fool.

but the same can also be said of Burns.

To me it is a better styles mesh than Mitchell.

And I like Mitchell too.

Think Mitchell would make a good fight out Burns too.

Not sure about this one today after seeing on Twitter that Kevin has been told he is next out against Burns in July.

He is off to Canada on Saturday to begin a training camp.

I don't really see Rees beating Burns. Again I think Rees would have plenty of success early but once he starts to slow down after 4 or so rounds, Burns would take over. He has proved he can keep a fight at distance for 12 rounds and with his height advantage, chin and extra workrate I just can't see how Rees wins this.

I think it would be a great fight as I think Rees would trouble anyone early in a fight. But Matthews had a little success in their short fight and Watson & Murray had spells on top once Rees slowed down, no offence to those guys but I think Burns is at a very different level.

Fair point. I think the only thing that beats Rees is a big puncher with a high work rate. Ricky has the work rate, I'm not sure he has the required dig. Would be cracking fight mind, great combination of fights to be made.

If the Rock's got his engine sorted, and Mitchell's got his boxing brain in gear, this is an absolute mouth watering fight.

Agreed, would like to see John Murray back involved as well, always felt he and Rees would be an absolute cracker. Rees would embarrass him in those early rounds but could Murray tough it out and catch up to him? The main thing is that no combination of the 4 would turn out to be a dull fight imo
