Very random post but there was a fanstastic piece in Boxing Monthly back in the early 2000's when all the USA Olympians had gone pro. It charted their career and predicted their futures.
Does anyone have a copy or a link?...would be interesting to get a contemparary view.
Long shot I know

all the past issues are archived on their website. Not all the articles are digitised but some are.
HEre is January 2000's issue:

You can see from the numbering that 00=Year, 01=Month, so just change the text incrementally until you find the issue in question.

I went to the Sydney Olympics, chatted to a couple of the American team, Ricardo Williams was a decent bloke , he was sat behind me and asked why i had a Cuban flag. I explained that i had met Felix Savon in the harbour and wanted to support him, Ricardo joked that i was sat in the wrong place to cheer Felix on. He seemed a really nice lad back then, shame how things turned out for him, but he can only blame himself. you can never tell whats going to happen in the future.

Great story Ian!
Think the piece in question commented that everyone in the camp was terrified when Michael Bennett sparred as they knew he was chinny. That would have made it around the time ihis pro career was just going off the rails.
Gonna trawl through later when I get home for work!

Yes thats right, actually Bennett put in a good effort against Savon, i was waiting for the big Cuban to win by KO, but he stopped Michael on the points deficit thing.
Bennett seemed to sting Savon a couple of times in the first round as well.

I call it natural selection. If you're dumb enough to post drugs using FedEx, you really shouldn't get hit in the head more!

very true, he wasn't exactly a criminal mastermind. I think part of the problem for him was a big signing on fee for going pro, which he went through in double quick time, and then wanted to keep up the lifestyle . Hence the turn to a bit of drug dealing.

I've put the Savon v Bennett fight on my youtube channel , i must of been sitting further away than i thought, as i can't see those right hands that stung Savon now
