as ther seems to be lots of this now and its even getting tv time how do you people realy rate it?? i mean as in the say semi pro british champ to the pro british champ,how far apart would you put them?? example i noticed mark potter is champ of one section and i think hed still be a force at british level as a pro. how would the semi pro lads do as pro do u think?? just wanting to know what level people rate this semi pro boxing at,cheers

When I boxed you were amateur if you fought without getting money for it and professional if you fought for money.

they get paid,wasnt wot i asked

the ones I've seen would get hammered by lads from the amateur clubs, though I've not had that much experience of the better ones

I'd say these unlicensed/semi pro/white collar world champs "as billed by some promotions" are about as good as area champs as mentioned above

I think the difference is in the dedication towards it. Anyone can get in a ring and have a fight (well anyone brave enough) this doesn't automatically mean you are a champ. The thing with the pro ranks is that you wither have to work up to a title or your backed by promoters and get a shot given to you. Now this is similar in the unlicensed world but it seems not as strict on who is allowed to fight for them.my friend signed up for an unlicensed fight had never fog for the promoter before and first fight he was british champ. My friend is a decent enough fighter but he'd get mullered by most pros. Thats said if he was put in the mix and brought on slowly and dedicated himself to the sport with a decent trainer he could probably be area level within a couple of years. So yes some unlicensed boxers are talented enough but most of the time there is a reason behind not being professional.

The boxing club i used to go to is dominated by semi pro,they have the bbu "super cruiserweight champion" what ever that is and the bbu super middle weight champion all belts won of shocking opponents.
semi pro boxing is the reason i quit boxing.

i think its fair to say that a champ in the pros would be far superior to a champ in semi pro / unlicensed .

Theres some good lads on the circuit though , ive had lads on my shows both for me and against me who could make themselves a good career in the pros , The OIBA British Cruiserweight champion is a lad called Dom Waterfield , and would without question be a contender domestically in the pros if he could be arsed , but you guys who think shane mcphilbin lives the high life havent seen anything on this lad , hes a pure party animal , which is such a shame as hes talented , he just isnt dedicated enough to spend more than a couple of days a week in the gym without going out partying in between , i think he is currently not looking at boxing again now either as he struggled to motivate himself due to knocking everyone out all the time , there was no challenge but he has no interest in going pro as he doesnt want to make the commitment to training , he always looks to be in shape but without training right then the fitness would become apparant against a good level opponent in the pro game .

But then other champions ive seen have been utter turd , if im honest a lot of lads unlicensed could potentially go pro if they can shift a few tickets and can dedicate themselves in training but unless they are going to become a major deal domestically or can make a good living as a journeyman then theres no real point as they probably earn more boxing unlicensed .

You are either a pro fighter or you are not. This distinction is made by the BBBoC

The only reason I'd go to a semi pro/corparate fight is if a close mate was fighting, technically it's inferior and even if I go to a pro show for the main event or a mate or someone I follow in boxing I still want to watch as much of the undercard as I can. Seeing John from the Red Lion against Ricky from the Golden Horse doesn't do it for me.
