Another fight. I pick Leonard to win big time. I want to see this comments.

The way you've been trashing the Great Hammerin' Hank, somebody would think he stole your lunch money when you were kids . . .

If you want to pick Ray Leonard to win this trans-era bout, fine. They were both great fighters. But "win big time?"

What is your take on Leonard vs Armstrong, since to you, both of them would whip Duran. One of them got whupped so bad in the first fight that he had to clutch and grab to stay for 15 rounds. He whupped him at his very best.

Do you believe that Leonard beat Duran at his very best?

Duran beating Leonard in the first fight is one of my favorite fights ever, one of the first fights I ever watched.

Well, in my humble honest opinion, Sugar Ray caught Duran in an OFF NIGHT. That particular fight was won by Leonard 3 months before the weigh in and hours before the fight.

Duran was way over 200 pounds prior to the rematch. It was his own fault to fight Leonard , (an incredible fighter in his own right, and that he took 15 rounds of top notch conditioning to beat him), to accept the fight that soon. Absolutely, NOBODY put a gun in Duran's head to give Leonard a rematch that quick. He should have bought some more time, to defend the new won title with a lesser fighter or have a tune up fight before the rematch. But his dislike for Leonard was so intense and wanted to beat him so bad again that he thought that he did not had to train that hard again. HE BELIEVED HIS OWN HYPE.

It was reported that the Duran's camp, his manager, Carlos Eleta, accepted an great offer that could not be refused, about 8 million dollars, which at that time, it was Duran's biggest payday, and still, in today's times, lots of money. Duran did not took care of himself after a big win of that magnitude, but, looking back, probably was a payday that he never received in his whole career. ( He had 73 fights at the time). When the fight happened, there were reports that the money was already in Panamanian banks. How could Don King and company let that happened? I don't know.

I am not saying that Leonard would have never beaten Duran being Duran at his very best, because, in that No Mas fight, Leonard fought very well. He even was quicker in the inside exchanges against a Duran that looked slow and lethargic. Duran knew he was in trouble way before the first bell, and to say the hell with it, to my surprise that night, he abrutply quit.

I would have love to see a third fight with Duran coming better prepared like he did in Montreal vs that Leonard in New Orleans that used magnificently that gameplan of trying to frustrate Manos de Piedra at all costs.... How this fight would have turned out? A great fight for sure....Maybe the best of the trilogy.

I agree with you, Duran's arrogance ruined him in the rematch.

It wasnt arrogance, IMO. Duran had a bonafide eating disorder. His love of food was compulsive.

I think Duran had the BIG HEAD...He believed his own hype. He thought he was invincible. Well, I was 12 at the time, and I thought if he beat Leonard, who could beat him? I guess I was also wrong. That second fight taught me lots of things.

You know what? sometimes I feel very sad about that evening. I cried my balls out. Not because Duran lost, but, because how he lost and the ending. It gave me a very sour taste in my mouth until this day.

I think I started "crying my balls out" at about 12 too. Never during a fight though.

This fight could really go either way, I see it as a 50/50 fight. So I'm going with a draw.
