good win for john tonight he beat prospect paddy mcdonagh undefeated irish champion its looking really good times for the local boxing in my area i live 2 minutes away from the empress ball rooms in mexbrough where stefy bull and dave hully are training fighters in the last two years i have seen the stable transform from just been jamie mcdonnell coming off two defeats to jamie mcdonnell domenating britain and europe and maybe (hopefully) go on to world honours then theres tommy coward who is on fire at the minute and will take some beating then theres unbeaten in the pro ranks and where all top amatures connor nixon, andy townend and adam dingsdale... this might seem to be a biased post but i am just buzzing about local boxing being been so good at the minute in my hometown amazing work stefy and dave let the good times roll

I was at Hove Town Hall to watch the fight. John was in great shape fighting at light heavy for the first time and really forced the tempo from the first round. The write up's on BoxRec now:

I've seen Anthony a few timea and always thought he's a decent fighter, got a good punch on him too when he lets 'em go.

I thought he looked in okay shape but come the last round it was Anthony who was looking the fresher. A few more rounds and he may even have forced a stoppage. I think Paddy underestimated Anthony, probably expected him to be content to sit on the backfoot and spoil, but he came to win and Paddy never got going. He can come again though, he's still really young and can put this down as experience.

Well done to him; he will do well if he's fitter and kept his chin at light heavy he should get some decent wins. He's strong and a good chin but flags at cruiser and sits in a corner winging hard right hand swings. It could be he's better suited to light heavy and if he lands a couple of hard shots may get a few decent stoppage wins. Good to him for sticking with it.
