Does that mean Eddie is wrong? Of course not. The fact Cleverly is ...ahem, a 'champion', albeit a papr one, is a bigger joke. Just the typical sour grapes from FW. Nothing new there. I just ignore everything he says as he is full of bitterness, contadictions and BS. I suspect most boxing fans do the same.

Is this the same FW who said he wouldnt promote chisora/haye then jumped all over the idea a few days later? Alll promoteres do it.

Good thing fw is putting that out on twitter because he has more followers on there than people who subscribe to allegedly.

FW promised to retire if Haye beat Enzo.

Rewind a year and Bellew was getting put on his arse, looking dreadful against Ajisafe and the rematch with McKenzie was one of the most boring fights I have ever seen. Combine that with running his mouth off big time and it wasn't endearing him to anybody.

I gave him a load of stick on here, saying how dull the rematch was - and then the penny dropped. It was plainly obvious that Clev's next date was coming up and Bellew wanted the win, to come away uncut and without injury to take that fight.

At that point, everyone was in agreement he was poor, barely British level and undeserving of the chance to fight for a trinket. I'm sure Tony would agree looking back.

But Froch told me he was one to watch, a real dark horse and was fighting out of his skin in Sheffield. I was still to be convinced. Then my mate who watched him training also said it too. Carl said he could go and win this. Many people took the pee. And I still remained unsure.

But his performance against Clev (only his 16th) , then his performance at the weekend made everyone stand up and agree - yes, this guy can actually back up his mouth afterall.

Bellew has got the balance right now, he has stepped down the lip and stepped up the performance.

He has won a heap of people over in the last 6 months. I'm a fan of the man and the fighter.

All this shows is Eddie got proven wrong, he was only saying what lots of people were saying before the Clev fight.... Bellew ran Clev to within a whisker, he proved most people wrong. Not sure what the deal is.

Maybe FW should have a look over some of his old Sun column's and have a re-think.

so does this mean clev is just british,comm and european level then cause i had bellew winning that fight,clev has had one good fight in his last 4 the rest were boring as hell,just my opinion

Cleverly has never been involved in a real world title fight - If he fought Braehmer, they maybe, but he didn't.

Who has Cleverly fought that is genuinely world class? Closest thing is Bellew, for me, as it emerges.

His opponents are chosen firstly on their ability and secondly on their price (IE not too much of a threat, and relatively cheap). Bellew was underestimated in the first fight. No chance of a rematch cos Bellew's too good and it was too close last time (his recent performance and his comments re Sky wouldn't have helped his case either, but I'm sure he knows that.)

I'm not dissing Cleverly, but how are we supposed to find out how good he is when he keeps fighting people (Bellew aside) well below his purported level?

I think Clev would fight anyone, but it's not down to him.

It feels like there's no direction in his career anymore, sandwiched between mediocre opponents and Hopkins press releases.

When incentivised he performs very well and provides plenty of action, when he isn't he is pedestrian and dull.

Agreed. I think he genuinely wants Hopkins, Cloud, Shumenov etc, and his promoter is more than capable of delivering these names, which must be frustrating for him.
