Hi all hope your well just wanted to post about my recent win.

My most recent win was a re match stoppage win over the guy that gave me my only loss as a pro Sam couzens. Was a very important fight for me as not only was it a chance to redeem myself but also to see how far I had come. Me and sam have both improved since our first bout but I always felt i had the beating of him. This is the most pumped I have ever been for a fight and I had promised myself that if I didn't win i would bow out of Boxing. Mainly just to put pressure on myself and to make sure i step my game up but also because I believe i can go on to bigger and better things and sam although a good fighter has been beaten a fair few times but only really by good fighters. I see myself as one of theses good fighters and had to prove to myself that I was just that. Come fight night i was so up for it i could hardly contain myself.
Anyway I got what I had trained so hard for and for all the hours I put in learning the trade to better myself I had finally proven to myself that i was ready to leave that loss behind me.

I spoke to sam after the fight and we had a really good chat about things past and present it was then I realized the guy I had spent a year and a half trying my best to overcome was going to end up being another good friend I had made through Boxing. Sam really is a great fella and i wish him all the best for the future. I believe from what he was saying that he sees his future as a super middle and i believe he will be a decent match for most at that weight. He's a good fighter and is not scared to take any challenge he is basically the opitomy of what a boxer should be.

Sorry if this post seems a bit like im blowing my own trumpet but i thought I'd share my experience in overcoming my only loss and how i feel i can go on from here.

I can't wait for you to make it big Dan. Probably one of the best combinations I've ever seen to finish a fight (against Paul Davis) and to stop Sam Couzins after the Crawley defeat (very dubious). Mate your easily one of boxing's nice guys. I hope Mr Helliett has big plans.

Agree with the above. After the honest and informative post you made straight after the loss Dan, I think you've earned the right to blow your own trumpet.

How would you feel about a fight with Darren Stubbs?...he is decent domestic level and will never be any more than that, always a test on his day and Spartacus could let you know that the boy can 'bang' a bit.

Not sure 100% which division my future lies in to be honest. I think if i could dedicate my life fully to Boxing then super middle would be a definite but its hard when you have to hold down a full time job aswell. That said I weighed in at 12st 10 last saturday and didn't have to cut any weight in the last week so could have easily made 12.4 or 5 with a day before weigh in so i will just see how it goes. I have a strange body as i am only 5ft10 but have really heavy legs and am generally quite built all over. I started off my boxing career at 17st7 although I didn't fight at that weight I did have a few at 16st and always felt strong at that weight. Thats the thing i am happy at light heavy but would like some higher level sparring to see how I fare against the stronger guys. I felt very strong on saturday and i know that couzens although he has been beaten a few times is a strong lad and i felt i was bullying him the whole fight. He actually commented after how strong I felt which was a good compliment. Again I would like the chance to test it against some higher level opponents in sparring. I do know tho if i were to make super middle and feel strong i could possibly do some real damage in that division. Its all just a case of seeing how my body can cope with the weight. I would hate to mess up now trying to reach impossible weights and take a step back on the ladder after working so hard at getting where I am so we'll just see.

I have spoken to my trainer about it already and i think as i am having a lay off because i damaged my hand it is a good chance for me to test the water at 12st weight wise and see how i feel.

I will keep you informed on any decision either way I feel i am capable of going somewhere in the sport as long as i stay focused and keep training hard and learning my trade aswell as being honest with myself and not getting too many steps ahead of myself.

Great win Woody. True test of a fighter to erase the only blot on your ink pad. Don't put too much pressure on making a lower weight right now. I think that's where fighters can go wrong. You need to be comfortable and go into a fight feeling good and strong, not worried about how you are going to feel after making weight.

Take the momentum and confidence you have just got into your next fight and go from there. Step at a time. Remember you've not even gone into double digits yet. Patience will be rewarded if you keep doing the things that brought you this far.

Like you said, if you are not full-time it is difficult. If you were to make the next step and get down to 12stone seek the aid of a recognised nutritionist and get the relevant tests done to make sure you can lose weight without it compromising your performance. Good luck.

Great post Woody. The big boys always make the headlines but its great to hear from a real pro who doesn't have the backing of a bigtime promoter, a glittering amateur career behind them and has to slog a 9-5 out like the rest of us as well as training. Massive respect to you mate, hope you make it to a title soon! You got another fan here, keep us unto date with your next fight

Any idea when your out again? When you looking to step up to Title Level?

Not sure yet I picked up a hand injury in the couzens fight so need a few weeks lay of id say probably july time then if all is well hopefully a title first fight back in the new season.
