Did any of the New Zealanders on the board know the Peru born Willman Rodriguez Gomez who died 32 seconds into a fight with Karihi Tehei in Tahiti over the weekend? I wonder what condition he was in when he entered the ring?

Willman Rodriguez Gomez is on the right hand side in the picture above, and both fighters were making their debuts. Tragic outcome.

I worked with a Chilean guy today who knew him, he said his parents actually went over to watch him, he said he was a K1 champion and only in his early 20's so must have been pretty fit. I'm sure there'll be something on N.Z news later.

From the article I read it sounds like he wasn't pounded badly, just collapsed, and only 30 seconds into the fight.

From all the reports i have heard he was not beat up on, simply collapsed and went into convulsions medical staff were on the scene promptly and he was taken by Ambulance to hospital where he unfortunately passed away on arrival. These are just reports I have been told so certainly wouldnt want to speculate.
Im not sure if he collasped after a punch? Or simply just collasped. Hopefully it becomes clearer as to what exactly happend!!
Sad and tragic however. Eugene Bareman whos involved heavily in MMA/Kick boxing in NZ, is well respected and would in my personal opinion never allow someone to compete in the ring at any level if they were not competent
