What chance do you give Foster in this one?

I really like Foster and think he can rates as a top 6 light heavy but Charles, at his best, has everything going for him here. He would out think Bob and score a KO in 10 rounds, after suffering a flash knockdown in round 7 whilst becoming slightly complacent

Honestly, all due respect to Foster, I don't think this would even be very competitive . .Charles KO 9.

Charles via late tko or clear decision. As good as Foster was, no light heavyweight in history comes close to a prime Ezzard Charles. The man was an artist.

They are worth a big mention alright, ive never seen any of their fights at light-heavyweight though. Tunney beat Greb multiple times at the weight, so he must have been incredible, fair enough. Langford had a lot of great wins around that weight too.

Maybe its because ive never seen much of the either two at 175 but id still stick with Charles as the best, maybe his resume doesnt quite compare to Langford's, but I rate him very highly, he had incredible skills. He'd definitely be on my top 10 pound 4 pound list.

Calling Charles the best is fine and dandy, but he could never be construed as having, "no one come close," to him.

When I posted this topic, I figured Charles would be the decisive favorite.

He should be. I think he wins.

OTOH, I kept thinking of those awesome left hook, one punch knockouts that Foster laid on Dick Tiger and Mike Quarry.

Then I thought of the one laid on Charles by JJW and just was wondering if there was much chance it could happen in this match up.

Charles was not that far from the Frazier/Ali league of gentlemen. I truly believe this, (even if some of you other various heathens don't) And we all saw what they did to him.

....charles could work outside and jab and hook, but was also a great infighter which would be the way to fight foster and that's the way he'd win.

..it's no surprise that i pick charles in this one.(i already have o this thread),....but as far as "what chance does foster have?" hey,his kind of puncher always has a chance, so i've got to give him that one. foster was good enough in a few departments and he'd be dangerous and that's why i think ezzard would knock him out.

Foster's height advantage is not going to phase a guy who regularly fought 6'2-6'3 heavyweights. Hell even as a washed up fighter he beat 6'3 'Big' John Holman . . .who was a huge heavyweight. Don't let the fact that he weighed 200 fool you . . in this era of less fighting and more eating/weight lifting the guy would be a solid 230-240. The guy's frame was huge.

I'd also contest Ezzard is "slightly" more skilled on counters. I think he has a clear advantage here.

The great Ezzard Charles was faster and more complete, but, I don't know, that great Bob Foster could hit like a damn mule. What a puncher! Look what he did to an overweight middleweight like the great Dick Tiger.

Well, that is matter of opinion, and you may be right in some way, but, I think the great Muhammad Ali was better pound per pound and had more achievements. I do not have a problem with the great Ezzard Charles being better than Ali in some views of this forum....He was a great fighter, indeed.
