Bute's a big bloke, isn't he?

Whenever I see Froch and Bute face off together, Bute dwarfs froch in about every department. Bute is supposed to be only half an inch taller, but it looks more. I know Carl says he walks around not far off 168, but what does Bute walk around at, and do you think there will be a significant disparity in size in the ring?
Based on the size difference and the fact Bute is a better boxer, unless Bute is draining like crazy and loses a step because of it, I think Carl gets stopped in this one.

He does look pretty big in some of those pictures with Froch but he always seems to be in fine nick on fight night. I strongly fancy him to beat froch.

Bute has a long neck.
But he is a big super middle definitely.
Fact: Chavez junior often outweighs Froch and Bute on fight night at 182lb.

anytime i've watched bute i've thought he looks a big lump of a lad in the ring, often looks quite a bit bigger than his opponent.
he also looks a very good fighter every time i've seen him and i think he beats froch, don't see him stopping him as froch is a tough cookie, but he's probably too good for carl unfortunately. i predict a reasonably comfortable points win for bute
i would absolutely love to see bute fight ward after the froch fight(s)
i think that would be a good clash, see how bute would deal with wards speed and movement, while ward has to combat butes strength and good boxing technique.
both fighters are very accurate, but i'd take ward edging a close decision there

Is this not just a case of Bute wearing dress-shoes and Froch wearing casual flat shoes? Could easily explain a 1 inch height disparity.

Bute didn't seem massively bigger than Magee when they fought.

Froch is 6ft tall.
Bute is about 6'1 - '6'1.5 and is naturally taller.

I've heard from a reliable source that Bute uses the same cobblers as Tom Cruise and Simon Cowell. As opposed to just talking cobblers, like Froch does.

All credit to Froch for taking this fight. The man always gives the fans what they want he has never denied them the matchups they want and for my money I rate him higher than Calzaghe just for that intangible ,even if when they met in the ring the vast majority of people would favour Joe despite the fact Carl faced tougher
prime opposition.
Im just hoping as I claimed before the Ward night was an off one for Froch and he rises to the occasion.
if not and as expected Bute wins...what a fight it will be Bute v Ward

What about where it really matters, in the "trousers" department?

Credit also has to go to Bute for going to Froch's back yard.... people wandered when he was going to man up - well its Johnson and Froch in his last two fights.... he is manning up now!
Credit also has to go to Eddie Hearn for delivering him a world title fight, on his home soil, after a one sided (I don't care what the judges thought) defeat. Its the funniest labelled "homecoming" I've ever heard (that's usually a celebration of a champion coming back for an easyish fight in front of his fans) - however, great achievement by Eddie.
Not many fighters get world championship fights directly after loses, Froch has had it twice so well done Hearn, and Hennessy before him.

Bute didn't strike me as that much naturally bigger than Froch at the Nottingham presser, he looked like he had quite a bit of weight to drop then though, had that puffy face. Carl looked like he was on weight then.
Crikey, no wonder Ariza ditched Manny's camp to get back to Chavez, thats a very dangerous amount of weight to cut.

Jesus, Froch is up against it here isn't he. He is used to being able to physically outmatch his opponents, the times he hasn't, against Taylor and Kessler, and in a different way Ward, who was much stronger than he appeared, he has struggled mightily.

You people are overlooking the fact that Bute is distinctly hittable. Froch's worst nightmare is guys he can't land on (Dirrell, Ward) not 'oooh look how much BIGGER and STRONGER he is' types).
If Froch can take someone into the trenches, no size advantage is going to matter at supermiddle. If anyone's going to look frail in there, it's Bute, and if the Canadian wins it'll be by extremely hard-fought decision.

Whilst Froch has shown shortcomings in his game against slicksters, Bute has shown vulnerabilities in other areas, such as the first Andrade fight. He went from looking stellar in the early rounds, to falling around like a drunk in the last round, completely unable to defend himself.
I think Froch has to throw the sink at him from the outset and try and press him hard for the duration. It needs to be a completely different approach to the back-foot Abraham fight.
I forecast Carl will have a quick look in the first round, size him up, taste his punches and then start in earnest from round 2.
Whilst it's not a good idea for Bute to be negative in another fighter's hometown, I think he will try and win each round at a time, whilst doing enough to outbox Froch - but also conserving a little steam for the final rounds to stay out of harm's way.
It's down to Carl to break that plan, to land hurtful shots and rattle him into a defence-minded stance; To take away his calculated plans and thoughts and get him fighting on instinct.
In a shoot-out I'd pick Froch, and that's what I think he needs to create in there.

Froch handled himself well against Pascal who was also a big guy.
Bute is a skilfull boxer though and he carries power. I can see him winning by stoppage.

I think if Bute could not only beat Froch at home, but stop him, would be a remarkable victory.
Perhaps a head-clash and a dash to the scorecards stoppage is feasible, but Carl has had some shots detonate on his chin by some big lads and has brushed them off.
Hopefully Bute's punches get brushed off too. But this is boxing and anything can happen.

Lol at Froch getting stopped. No chance in hell. His heart and stamina are just as strong as his chin. Getting stopped in front of his home fans? Froch? lol.
Like Gomez said, Froch needs to take it to Bute from the off, like he did vs Pascal. Rough him up and push him back, and he has a real chance to win. Who the hell has Bute fought who has been capable of fighting back? Oh yeah, the second-tier Andrade, who he should have a LTKO12 against.

Froch 167.5, Johnson 166: Weigh-in
Lucian Bute 167.4 vs. Glen Johnson 166.5
Not much in it size wise
Bute controlled Johnson more effectively but they had sparred hundreds of rounds

I bet you Bute weighs more than 182 lbs on the night. Bute was 182 lbs for the
first Andrade fight.

Weigh in weights don't mean anything. What matters is what the boxer weighs on the night. Bute has a reputation for putting on more than a stone over night.
