So out of this quartet of tough, tough guys... Who would you say was the toughest?

They could all take punishment... But who could take the most? and still have the warrior spirit to keep cominf forward!

Chuvalo by a mile, Cooney's inclusion is uncomfortable. I could think of 100 heavies more worthy.

I also wonder why Cooper is listed.

George Chuvalo is amazing. I wonder what kind of NFL football player he would have made.

Cooper is seen as the quintessential tough Brit. It's kinda the same thing with Irish boxing fans who see Quarry as one of our own... (Though I don't).

Here in the states Cooney is known as the ultimate cream puff. He even got knocked out on the Simpsons.

Okay, I understand.

Sir Henry was no doubt tough, but it is hard to forget how Patterson flattened him.

Quarry was real tough and should definitely be 2nd only to Chuvalo on this list.

Chuvalo, then Quarry, obviously. Like most, I think its a poor list.

Why isn't Vlad on the list?

Although I have often compared and contrasted Chuvalo's wretched misfortune with that of boxers who experience none of his losses, but wind up like Gerald McClellan or Wilfred Benitez.

George Johnson is one guy you're not likely to see in a list like this (owing to relative obscurity), but he was a double-tough and triple-fearless man, with a teak jaw and iron will.

I would place him above Cooney and Cooper both without hesitation, and he would be in the mix with Quarry for durability.

If a piece of tungsten, a hunk of teak, a sheet of kevlar and a slab of gibraltar got all orgied up and made love, their offspring would be second still to Chuvalo. He was operating on another planet. In fact, they should probably re-name one of those four things, "Chuvalo."

Is the question: Who had the best chin? While Chuvalo had the best chin (by a mile) I don't Quarry was any less tough in the sense that he never quit and took his beatings without flinching. Chuvalo could take the bigger punch but there was no quit in a Quarry (in the end I guess that was unfortunate).

I think you are talking about "Scrap Iron" Johnson. Excellent choice.

Agree that he would definitely above Cooper and Cooper and in Quarry's class in durability.

According to what I read somewhere on the net, Frazier went to Scrap Iron's funeral and told Johnson's family that Scrap Iron was the toughest guy he ever fought.

Also agree with the mention of Oscar Bonavena. Another one well above Cooney and Cooper.
