In Britain you have to retire as a referee at 60 or 65 but can stay on as a judge as Dave Paris does now. That's why Mickey Vann and co work elsewhere because you are still allowed to referee a fight until your 70. Am sure Vann spends most of his time refin in Ireland, could be wrong.

Vann also officiates for the Boxing Union of Ireland, you are quite right.
Does this mean he will ref Haye-Chisora with Paul Thomas, Larry O'Connell and John Coyle as judges

My best man at my wedding some 25 years ago is Mickey Vann'a god son, from leeds. I'm sure I heard from my mates dad over 25 years ago that Vann was related to the guy who brought the Elephant Man to the UK, name of 'Bytes' I think.
Can anyone clarify that?

Round 1: I can see Vann doing his slinky, snake-like circling as Couch comes at him full force.
After a brief battle of the jabs, Couch leans in with an overhand right, clashing Vann with her head.
To which Vann replies... "Oi - no naughties with the head"
Couch then replies "f*ck off"
Ian John Lewis steps in an stops the contest.
The End.

This just gets better and better .......
I believe that we are witnessing the biggest change in British boxing history - only time will tell whether this will be the making of or the death of the sport in this country.

Ive read his book and that seems familiar, cant remember 100% but he spent some of his younger years travelling with the circus i believe.

I keep seeing Paul Thomas from Derby on allegedly judging. Same again not allowed over here, but allowed over to over there.
Regarding Mickey Vann he moves better at 70+ than some of the overweight referees we have over here.

It'd be great to hear "no naughties with the 'ead" in a British ring again!

If you mean Joseph (John) Merrick "the elephant man" I'm pretty sure he was born in Leicester. Recently read something on the lines that they were going to erect a memorial to him or something similar.

What's the odds the old WBU panel of Vann, Reg Thompson and Karl Rogers turn up?

Well he is a bit of a clown. He's also a "Class A Star" cock.

I don't think many would complain if Mickey Vann was the referee because he is a very good referee and was one of the better refs the BBBofC had.

Will this now be a case of the promoters working for Luxembourg having their own referee and judges or are Luxembourg now doing interviews etc for referees, judges, timekeepers, and inspectors.
