Is FWazza getting desperate?

allegedly subscriptions have evidently sold like the proverbial cold buckets of kebab vomit, there is seemingly dissent in the ranks from some of his more esteemed stable whilst he has an increased pressure to fill up airtime. Do the inherent long term risks of Haye-Chisora suggest that it is shit or bust for him?

I've always been of the opinion they should have tried to pick up international weekday fights from the East and shown them either live or on tape delay. Whilst their would be some cost involved I imagine it'd be a cheapish way to fill up their air time AND get some decent Fights for the hard core fans. Ioka v Yageashi (WBC/WBA Miniweight unification) is coming up and that...that would be a treat for the hardcore fans.

Yeah, I am sure there are some decent cheap TV deals out there - Asia TV, things like Telefutura in the Spanish Speaking communities in America - always have some nice exiting fights. Australia fight maybe also.

They costing nothing to buy hence why they showing them. The uk shows cost alot as live tv. I rather the channel just was for overseas fights.

Not about the TV channel, but he was on Twitter moaning about how the Board can have a 'debate' while not allowing one side of the 'debate' to put its side across... how desperately ironic

I think it indicates just that, have a feeling if the authorities get there way and this fight gets pulled it could be all over, I must be one of the few who actually like allegedly and think for a tenner a month its good value,. I get to see quite a few euro fights that I used to have to pick up on disc if I wanted to see them, some American action, we are going to get this academy stuff and normal shows as well, I can't knock what I get for my tenner to be honest.

As to the point of the thread, yes I think you are right, we can't get away from the rumours about payments, contracts, dissent in the camp, etc some if not all of it you would wonder if it was right.

I have never liked the protecting of fighters he does and almost cried at some of the missed fights we could have had but did not, however, for me I hope allegedly survives, I love my sport and enjoy the watching the boxing on the channel.

It is, isn't it.

Very ironic of him. Complete tw@t, personally speaking, of course. He wont care one bit about how I feel about him, why should he? But it does feel good booting this hypocritical blank where it hurts.

I do actually largely agree with this post - I do like the channel but three things.

1) Being exceedingly pedantic - whats the difference between the box academy shows and the "normal" FW/Queensbury shows. I think its just packaged as Box Academy cause of the criticisms of some of the earlier home bills on the UK.

2) It will be interesting to see if we are getting the promised 2 shows a week? Fair do's they are making a good stab at it, I do have some doubts it is crossing the 2 live shows a week.

3) I seriously hope the Chisora vs Haye fight is a desperate last throw of the dice for the channel - cause this fight should not be happening and I do hope it is pulled, although I don't wish the channel to go under cause it has provided us with action we wouldn't normally see.

He is desparate. Even though I am going to it I dont think its going to get the ppvs( subcribers) they think its going to get. They be hoping for around 300 to 500k they need to spend on advertising to get these numbers.

He keeps mentioning Julian Jackosn v Herol graham that was 1990. The board ignored numerous things he done since then I like to mention on but you cant.

Not everyone reads the sun. I think they need to spend more than that to get numbers they want. Dont forget Haye going to be on over 1.5million for this.

I'd never read it, the amount of people who never even mentioned boxing when haye was fighting Wlad and Valuev that are going on about this is staggering even my girlfriends nan was chatting about it

Found this on eastside boxing

Dear Mr Smith,

I refer to the press release which you issued earlier this week in which you state that any member of the British Boxing Board of Control who participates in the Haye v. Chisora fight “will be deemed to have terminated” both his membership of your Board and his licence. As you know I am Dereck Chisora’s manager and even if I am not at the fight I will be ‘participating’ in accordance with your definition of this word in the press release.

I write to make two complaints about your press release. The first is that there are no substantive grounds to revoke my licence and the second is that you have not properly complied with any procedural requirements.

Substantive Grounds
Under Rule 4.12 of your own Rules and Regulations, as a licence holder I can participate “(a) in or at a Promotion which is licensed by the BBBofC; or (b) in or at a Promotion organised by a Federation, Commission, Association or Controlling Authority affiliated to, or recognised by the BBBofC”. The Federation Luxembourgoise De Boxe is a Federation affiliated to and recognised by the Board; both are affiliated to the EBU. As that Federation is sanctioning the Haye v. Chisora fight, my participation is not a breach of your Rules.

You have not communicated your complaint to me at all, but in the press statement your concern appears to be that a member who participates in the Haye v. Chisora fight would “bring the sport of boxing into disrepute”. As I say, were the Board to really consider that I was bringing the sport into disrepute then I would expect you to have set out the charges against me by letter and with a level of particularity.

I cannot see how I can be bringing boxing into disrepute for the following reasons (which list is not exhaustive):

* It cannot be because the fight is unlicensed, because it is licensed by a Federation older than the Board, affiliated to the EBU and which has the same medical provisions, testing, safety provisions and insurance as the Board;

* It cannot be because David Haye is fighting and is not licensed by the Board. If this were the case, you would object to almost every fight taking place overseas. Indeed, I note that the Board has not complained that the WBA is bringing the sport into disrepute, despite that organisation licensing Mayweather’s fight even though he has a conviction for domestic violence;

* It cannot be because Dereck Chisora is not licensed by the Board, for the reasons above. Also, if the Board did consider that Mr Chisora should not fight again, it would have banned him for life. Instead it withdrew his licence but invited him to apply for a licence with the Board or with another sanctioning body when he wished to do so;

* It cannot be because of safety reasons. Not just because the Federation has the same procedures as the Board, but also because the Board took no sanction against Promoter Barry Hearn after he ignored the Board’s refusal to grant Julian Jackson a licence to fight in the UK against Herol Graham and staged the fight in Spain. Indeed, the Board supplied officials for that fight and gained financially. Further, whilst the Board has been found guilty of negligence (in relation to Michael Watson), the Federation has had no such decisions against it;

*It cannot be because there is a fight sanctioned in the UK by the Luxembourg Federation. This is because the Board has licensed fights in other jurisdictions, as have many other Federations and Associations and because of the principle of free trade across Europe.

Procedural Grounds
If in fact you really did consider that I, a licensee, is guilty of misconduct because of my ‘participation’ in the Haye v. Chisora fight, then you need still to comply with Rule 25. The Board would need to send me a formal complaint and require me to answer it and attend before the Board. You have not done so.

My Complaint
My concern is that by issuing the threat contained in your press release you are trying to stop me from being involved in a legitimate and lawful fight governed by another Federation and to interfere with my freedom to work and to earn a living. I am worried that you have taken this decision not because you are really concerned about the fight (for the reasons I set out above) but because you are fearful that you will lose your monopoly in the UK.

I require written confirmation that you will not seek to take away my licence if I remain Dereck Chisora’s manager. As you have catapulted this issue into the press, then I consider it is reasonable for me to seek your confirmation by close of business on Wednesday 16 May 2012. If I do not receive your confirmation then you will receive a formal complaint from my solicitors followed by proceedings (including injunctive relief should they consider it necessary and appropriate). Of course there may well be issues of costs and damages associated with your actions and I put you on notice that I will be seeking these also if so advised.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Frank

^^I hear the BBBofC are getting desperate and have tried getting the government to abn the fight. I'd wager money that the BBBofC will buckle on this one.

Warren's statement deserves a thread of its own.

I think his statement is more convincing than the BBBofC's.

I said before the boards statement was a gust of hot air they had no real way to back it up, and no legal grounds. The fact that they havent even abided by their own guidelines and written to FW formally just show they are trying to get headlines.

Who have the BBBofC been trying to impress? What did they hope to achieve?

I have been baffled by their behaviour since the Chisora and Haye incident, they seem to have lost the plot.

I think they have been trying to impress the media and people who have made big deal out of a little scuffle. It just reminds me of the whole jonathan ross / russell brand incident where every doo gooder comes out the woodwork to have an opinion the majority of people complaining dont even watch combat sports. The BBBofC were trying to appease the masses but they've backed the wrong horse (pardon the pun), the fight is clearly very popular.

It seems they didn't realise that it was temporary faux moral outrage to sell a few more papers and they foolishly took it seriously.

Instead of doing what was right they tried to do what they thought was popular and it was the wrong move.
