Now hear me out.

I know Magee isn't considered top-drawer any more by most at light welterweight, and he was talking about moving up, but people seem to forget a few things.

1 Mitchell is 33 years old, and has already had 56 pro fights, and didn't exactly have an easy time of it against the fairly limited N'dou. Were the cracks beginning to show in Mitchell, are all those fights catching up with him, after all, he's the kind of fighter who needs reflexes to be successful, he's had a lot of fights and he's no spring chicken....

2 Eamonn is hungry for a shot at Hatton, or rather the success that a win over Hatton would bring. If he beats Mitchell, he has the IBF interim title in his hands, which is not an inconsiderable matter. Of course Eamonn will certainly be hungry making light welterweight again, he's always been pretty big for the weight.

3 Mitchell probably knows very little about Magee, and may underestimate him, and the one thing you cannot overestimate is Magee's toughness. He hung tough against Hatton and took a lot of those rib benders pretty much without flinching.

I wonder whether Warren isn't throwing Mitchell a bit of a curve ball here, maybe I am clutching at straws, help me out here?

Of course Eamon has a chance - he is a world class counter puncher. However his dubious fitness levels, coupled with Mitchells flashy in and out style will most likely lead to him outpointing TheTerminator in a frustrating match up.


I think Warren is using Magee as a measuring stick to see if Sharmba has slipped and whether or not Hatton is ready to take him. Its always a pleasure to see world class fighters in the UK though.

Is this fight definitely confirmed?

It looks like it, it's on boxrec and announced on Warren's website.

Magee has a slim chance, but I'm sure Mitchell saw the Hatton fight + knows what he has to do to win this one.
Magee disapointed when he had his big chance v Hatton, and this is an even more difficult one for him.

Good fight though, on what's looking a great bill for the fans.

Magee has nothing to fear does he? Mitchell's slick but he's no ball of fire and if Magee can build upon his performance against Jimmy Vincent he should do okay.

Mitchell's never been the most robust fighter when someone's managed to catch up with him and who's to say Magee can't?

And like someone has remarked, Sharmba is 33 and maybe his close tussle with Ndou was an indication that the speedy Washington man's legs aren't what they once were.

Plus, with Magee being southpaw, Mitchell's lost the advantage of being an awkward portsider, because so is Magee.

Good bit of matchmaking I think

Magee's stands a good chance here, and like others I am a bit surprised that Mitchell is taking this fight here in the UK. It could go pear shapped for him.

On saying that though, I do think Magee is overatted, he hasn't really done a lot, and apart from Neary, the only other times he has stepped up he has gotten beat, quite comfortable as well.

Would love to see him do it though :)

To be honest, I expected Mitchell to look at lot worse (although the highlights were brief). I heard it was a stinker of a decision, it didn't look that way for the brief rounds that I saw.

I just think Mitchell will have too much in the way of work rate, I think a fast handed fighter is what can gie Mitchell problems (as Watt pointed out). I personally don't Magee has fast enough hands to make Mitchel pay often enough. It will be another frustrating night of "if only's" and "not quite".

I think N'dou deserved more credit than he got, Mitchell didn't over the hill to me (although he should be slowing down now) - I believe Mitchell has always been a tad overrated, however N'dou is definately underated. Who else has beaten him?
