Three Questions About David Price.

It was hard not to be impressed with David's performance on Saturday night, but.....

1. What will happen when he gets hit cleanly with a hard shot?

2. Will he be able to dig deep when the going gets really tough?

3. Is he a future world #1?

These seem to be the exact questions that were asked of Wlad after Corrie Sanders smashed him in 2 rounds years ago.

Q1. - He will never have a good chin, that seems obvious. However, like Wlad I think he will be able to adapt his style so that he rarely gets hit on the chin.

Q2 - I'm not sure, as an amateur when he was chinned he did fall apart a bit. Again, that was a long time ago, with sparring top guys he may learn to what to do in a crisis.

Q3 - Quite possibly. Once the klits are gone, there's no-one that looks like they will dominate. Apparantly Price has been doing well against Pulev who just ko'd dimitrenko.

price has never been stopped on the floor always on his feet FACT, plus he only been stopped by world class amateurs camarelle knocks loads out wont every major as an am no big shame then,i have trained with price thousands of times no heavyweight i have ever seen trains anywhere near as hard as him.

1. No idea, but what heavyweight hasn't been shook or floored? not many.

2. I can't see why he wouldn't be able to dig deep when the going gets tough, I think he looks in superb shape and is willing to spar any top heavy, that shows he isn't afraid to get in a bit tough.

3. Maybe, there's alot of heavies that have had a big punch and skills that have not won a heavyweight title, but from what we've seen so far there's no reason David can't be challenging for a title in the future. In fact the Klitchkos have been talking about David , and they usually want to rush a guy into a title fight as they see him as a threat if they have to fight him later on.

1. Depends who it is who is hitting him. He got stopped a few times as an am which has been widely covered. Cammarelle did him and no shame in that but Price wasn't even competitive in that one. He seemed to fall apart a bit, which leads on to...

2. Although he fell apart against Cammarelle, he showed how big his balls were in the commonwealths back in 06 after being dropped heavily a couple of times he rallied and came back and stopped his opponent in the final round.

3. Hard to say. If he suffers a big ko loss he may never recover. Can't see him beating Wlad but by the time Price is ready to fight for a title the Klits will be retired anyway. Joshua could well scupper any claims Price has to be number 1! Seriously though, how great would that be? Two English chaps fighting it out for the big one.

Do we know if anyone (other than the established world level operators he's had the chance to go in with) has given Price notable trouble in sparring?

1. What will happen when he gets hit cleanly with a hard shot?

Most heavyweights hit cleanly with a hard shot will stumble or fall. Wlad K shows you don't have to have an iron chin to be a dominant champion. You just have to not get hit cleanly.

2. Will he be able to dig deep when the going gets really tough?

I'd imagine he will be game when hurt, but that could be his downfall. Wlad didn't learn to survive, he just learned how to not get hit.

3. Is he a future world #1?

Probably. He looks to have the most long term potential of all other heavyweights out there, despite being less proven than a lot of them.

I have never seen footage of Price's amateur stoppages....how bad were they?? We're not talking a lights-out stunner like Paul Williams v Sergio Martinez here though, are we?! Lots of questions seem to be about...."yeah...but what happens when (insert trauma here)". The last 4 KO wins Pricey has had, he's hardly been touched on the chin so maybe that question will continue to be immaterial (?!!)

Same question used to be asked about froch at one point ,
Well , not about the chin i cant remember people asking that ,
But more in terms of how will he react if dragged through the tranches as in the early part of his career he looked like he was a very slow starter and tended to switch off a bit , but then when ever he turned it on he then stopped his opponents .

Yiddo mentioned the Commonwealths in 06 where he dug deep. I also remember him being dropped a few times in a 4 Nations fight against a Welsh lad, and Price came back to stop him late on.

He is good but at the moment the answer is no because he has not proved anything beyond domestic level yet.

When he steps up to the plate and proves what he can do we can start celebrating it.

Oh god. How many more years of giants hiding behind their jab do we have to stomach? The Klitschko brothers, and the obesity of the crop of contenders, have all but killed boxing outside of Germany.

Do we really want to see another goon not blowing away normal sized heavies because he's terrified of getting hit?

Price should study Riddick Bowe if he wants to develop a popular crowd pleasing style, not the klits.

I agree with that wholeheartedly

I dont agree with this at all yes price uses his jab but when he see's an opening he throws punches that would knock a horse out he has been blowing away normal size heavyweights and IMO he will continue to do so as he steps up in class

People were suggesting Price should 'study' the Klitschkos. No one should study the Klitschkos, ever. Save Lewis/Klitschko, Sanders/Klitschko, and Brewster/Klitschko for posterity, and load up their remaining tapes into a large cannon and fire them into the sun.

Speaking of Bowe, he was considered fragile when he turned pro, got chinned in a round by Robert Salters shortly before Olympics.

Price isn't as talented as Riddick Bowe, isn't as fluid as Riddick Bowe, and will never fight anything like Riddick Bowe. If Price wants to be a long standing world champion he needs to be a Klitschko clone. Some people may not like that but it's the way it is.
No doubt the way of the Klitchsko leads to career longevity and success but for the moment I'll continue enjoying watching Price getting stuck in whilst learning his trade until one day he can whip a man to within an inch of his life with a jab before delivering the coup d'etat from afar.

I can't believe Brits are so tribal and nationalistic they'd accept another giant champion playing safety first against obese and talentless opponents, fight after fight after coma inducing fight simply because he's an Englishman. You could add about 50 KOs to the Klitschko's records for all the times they've knocked me unconscious during their fights. I hope Price doesn't want to emulate them.

1. What will happen when he gets hit cleanly with a hard shot?

It remains to be seen, but I think he'll survive.

2. Will he be able to dig deep when the going gets really tough?

I'm not certain, but I believe he probably will.

3. Is he a future world #1?

He has as good a chance as anyone of becoming the next HW champion.

My only real concern is that Price isn't active enough. Up-and-comers who are winning easily need to fight often (for example, Wlad fought 14 times in 1997, Tyson fought 17 times in a year). Price should fight again in July and then twice more (Sep & early Dec) before the end of the year.
