johnny nelson and barry mcguigan called froch performance at the weekend the best by any british fighter in a british ring, mcguigan said its the best performance by a british fighter in any ring, so my question is what is the best performance by a british boxer in a british ring?? id go with calzaghe vs lacey

Benn-McClellan was a similar story to Calzaghe-Lacy and Froch-Bute.

given the context, McGuigan - Pedrosa trumps any of the above, IMO.

benn mcClellan was a good fight for the fan but benn didnt use skill for this fight he used pure heart, calzaghe was skillfull against lacey and remember lacey was at that time the most feared super middle on the planet but calzaghe didnt believe the hype and gave him a boxing lesson :)

McGuigan is like an excitable child at times. I bet he said "this is the best Christmas ever!" every single year. You should always let the dust settle before you attempt to position an event in terms of its historical significance.
i have a mate, every gig he goes to is the best gig he has
ever been to.

I thought he did believe it, and they were struggling to get him into it?
x2

Nice controlled performance by Watson, but it was against Benn 1.0 - very powerful, but also incredibly one-dimensional. Doesn't compare to the others already mentioned IMO.
One that always gets overlooked was Duke McKenzie's little masterclass against Gaby Canizales.
Naz was also punch-perfect that night against Steve Robinson.
But on balance my vote also goes to Calzaghe against Lacy.

id go with it being Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy from my own memory ,
Im sure there must be some in the Know as far as past boxers that may think differently .
Froch vs Bute could go on to be bigger , will need to see what bute does from here onwards to really know .

10th July 1951 Earls Court I reckon.
Sugar Ray turns up with a record that reads 128-1-2!

If he ever did say that I'd point out that the actual Christmas when Jesus was born was probably the best.

Imagine the reaction in today's media if that happened now! Would be front page news for at least a month.

McClellan knocked Benn out in the first round if not for bent officials, great heart tho.
Mine would be McGuigan-Pedrosa

How so?
Was longer than 10 seconds he was out of the ring for.

I would rate Joe Bugner's display against Joe Frazier at Earls Court in 1973 - even in defeat -as better than Froch's win over someone like Lucian Bute.

naz has a good few performances steve robinson, tom johnson, jose badillo to name a few,i dont think he gets the credit he deserves to be honest. robin reids performance against henry wharton was better than the froch bute fight imo.

Yes, easy.
Last 10 years I would say Hatton vs Tszyu, last twenty years I would say Benn vs McCllellan.... but of all time I don't think it is close - has to be Turpin vs Robinson.

Hatton v Tyszu has to be up there. I think Frochs win over Bute will stand up better over Calzaghes win over Lacy in the long run as i expect Bute to come back and win a few decent fights... Ali
